Hi all, I recently landed a job (wooo beer) however it is a 90 mile round trip, making up about 21k miles a year.

As a result I am looking at changing vehicles so the journey is more pleasant to take. Currently looking at second hand CLAs. What's your guys opinions on them? Found a really nice CLA 220 redart AMG line that's up for 15k but has 118k miles on it, 63 plate with full Mercedes services, hasn't had a new clutch or gearbox, not sure how often they'd need to be changed on an automatic?

How many miles should I expect from a CLA, assuming most driving is on the motorway.

Or would it be better to find a lease deal for one, even though i'll be looking at about 25k miles per year?

What are your guys thoughts?

Like with PCP there is often a fair use policy on miles with lease vehicles and you can almost guarantee a lease company will charge you for excess millage. Based on what you have said you are very easily going to go over the agreed millage. It's true that you can agree a millage limit with a lease company however generally speaking the more you require the more you will pay. Based on what you've said your millage is, you can expect to be paying a lot of money for it. I'm thinking you could do a bank loan at a reasonable rate (around 3 / 3.5%) and get yourself a decent diesel for the long journeys.

I am paying £400/month for a lease on an Audi A6 SLine..... 25k mile a year allowance, 10p per mile if over the allowance.

Direct with Edinburgh Audi.

There were at the time (Mid March) quite a few similar prices on CVL so initially went into Audi for a test driver of an SE Exec and was up front with them and asked them if they could offer a similar quote on a stock car - options/colour not important (no or minimal options). They came within a few £ of the CVL prices and a deal was done, although decided on an SLine instead of the SE Exec.

To clarify, car is A6 2.0 (190) TDI Ultra S-Tronic, £2300 down, £400/month, 36 months. 25k per annum.

I think it will go against the norm of those in the main lease thread as they look to end the lease while the car is under warranty and with my 25k/year for 3 years, will clock up 75k plus so will be exposed in the final 6 to 9 months for repairs.

With the kind of mileage you’re going to be doing, it’s best to avoid cars that have over 100k miles. Say you buy this CLA for 15k with 118 miles, after 2 years it will have over 160k miles and the cars value will probably shrink to less than half. Plus you don’t know how these new budget mercs handle them kind of miles.

You could find a decent lease deal like the poster above however I think you should play it safe and go for a nice low mileage GTD, lots of kit standard so don’t have to worry about spec’s and 15 grand will probably get you one under 2 years old!

Best of luck

Do you have a probation period? Could be worth waiting until you commit to a fixed term contract.

Also, think about a car share, if someone else does that commute you could Halve your commute costs.
