Looking for advice on new family car.

I drive a saloon now but trying to get all the kids things in is hard.

Looking at

Used
XC60 (new shape)
X-Trail.

New
Tiguain Allsapce
Kodiaq

Budget is about 20-25k

I want XC90, Q7 or X5 but from reading second hand reviews costs of second hand maintenance can be astronomical.

What does everyone think?

I dont think you will get a new shape xc60 for 25k.

Do you really want to buy cash or are you using finance/lease?

Even if you actually buy cash, best not to look purely in cash terms due to depriciation. This is the biggest cost of almost any car. It is also why its worth looking at pcp/lease deals even if you dont want them. They usually represent the true cost fairly well.

During March I saw xc60's with 8k off. This meant monthly payments of about 350 for decent trim and 4k deposit.

We got a Touareg back in November. It's been brilliant - massive, comfy, well equipped and reasonably nippy for something so big.

Our's is a new one (on lease), but given the discounts available to buy them, I would image you could pick them up a few years old for a good price.

I was looking at these but wondered with the new model out this year and this being on the old platform if it was going to feel like an old car with the tech etc being a few years out of date. Which was why i was looking at tigain allspace.

May revisit the Toureg option then.

Can pick them up >25k for like 2 year old i think.

Tech is fine with one exception... you can't link the Nav to an iPhone - so you can't use google maps for traffic flow info (you still get normal traffic updates). Works fine with Samsungs on android according to owners.

Otherwise it plays music off my iPhone no problems (though I now have all my music on a SD card), and hands free calls are super clear with full auto address book uploading etc.

Only other thing I'd mention is economy - my wifes uses it most of the time for commuting in and out of London (c.50 miles/day, a mix of motorway and inner London) and she gets c.29mpg. When I drive it I don't get 30mpg on a run (at 85-90).

Mine's an Rline plus, so has electric heated seats with memory, panoramic roof, 21's, etc etc.

I’ve just returned my 4.2 Q7, 2yrs and 65k miles

All in for finance (plus interest on HP), maintenance, tax, insurance, tyres, repairs, fuel, etc. It’s cost £30 per day

Cavernous interior and a nice place to be, ate up everything thrown at it.

Plenty out there without mega miles, and as long as it’s been maintained it should be fine smile

Kodiak is a great choice too and the same platform but without seats 6/7

Yes the superb is a class car just can’t get to grips with the looks! Not for me! Which is a shame as it’s a class vehicle

Used to be l&k but now I turned it into a sportline.
You should look for a sportline or sportline plus.

Only problem with Skoda Superbs being that if you drive them through a city centre on an evening everyone assumes you’re a taxi ... ask me how I know lol

That's surely a positive? Income on the side to help with petrol?

I'm on my 2nd Q7 and apart from tyres, it's been routine running costs.

Air suspension is superb.
