I'm looking into buying a new Car. Originally I was going for a Scirocco R-line but the deal went south and now i'm looking into alternatives. What do you guys think about this:

Low milage, reasonable price but how do the cars fair over time? Any known problems etc?

Cheers

Not sure I would spend over £8k on an 11 year old Astra VXR irrespective of low mileage.

What about a Golf GTI

Megane RS

I'm assuming it's just the light, and not actually the state of the alloys?

Its also been serviced in the future!

As much as I liked the astra vxr I drove - wouldn't buy that. However depends what sort of car you after. Want 3 door only? etc.

Currently got one of the new shaped Clios. What I'm wanting is something with a more power but also something with a premium feel inside. I like the scirocco r lines because they're comfortable and look good and have a good engine. I'm not after anything flash or super quick, just a nice car with nice build quality that can hold its own. 3 door or 4 door makes no difference really.

Again that looks a lot for a 10 year old Seat.

I know its been mapped to 300 bhp but that would be a minus for me.

Buy a standard one and mod it yourself. At least you will then know what's exactly has been done.

As my post previously, you can't go wrong with a decent Golf GTI, Scirocco TSI, Megane RS etc...

They all have turbo engines which can be mapped easily.

Or spend a little less and go for an Edition 30 GTI which has the bigger turbo.

Considering you can pick up the Astra VXR's for half that price, no I wouldn't buy it!

The marks on the alloys have mainly been caused by small stones catching the leading edges of the alloys there's nothing you can do to prevent it, it's one of those things that affects all alloys but is especially noticeable on diamond cut alloys.

I'd use the above as a haggling point but it wouldn't be a deal breaker, the main issue with these is the gearbox which is a bit weak but I have a mate who track his one of these with 110k on the clock that hasn't had a problem yet.

With any car issues will be down to luck of the draw, assuming you've carried out your due diligence in the first place.

Personally if you like the VXR (why wouldn't you) I'd go for the newer model (I like the look of these, they drive well to) it has more about it & they're not a common sight either.

Or go for a last of the line 5 pot Focus ST-3

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

When looking at the Megane RS's you need to find a Lux with the (Recaros if possible but they're like hens teeth to find) Cup Chassis:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Or go for an Alfa Giulietta the chassis isn't as good as the two above but they're an impressive car a nice plce to be with a great engine:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Out of the VAG options these would be my (all the above would before these though) pick:

MK3 Leon Cupra

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Audi S3

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

R32

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

GTI

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

All the above are great but from your description of what you want you don't mind not having a hot hatch at which point there are a few warm hatches that fit into your description:

Megane GT (very hard to find but they may fit the bill) 220bhp

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Astra GTC 200

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

A3 S Line 2.0T

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Remember warm hatches will depreciate at a faster rate than the Hot versions & ultimately won't be as much fun, also be prepared to travel as you have a much better chance of landing a great car.
