Girlfriend wants a Juke
Discussion
My girlfriend is well overdue for a new car and has her heart set on a Nissan Juke, her budget is up to 7k. There are plenty available and seem decent value.
Although I'm not a fan of the looks of the car myself I have to admit it's a lot less boring than pretty much anything else I can find.
I'm also pleased that it's Japanese as you usually can't go too far wrong with a Japanese car in terms of reliability but Nissan work closely with Renault nowadays, so I'm concerned that some of it might actually be French which I usually avoid.
I think the 1.6 petrol is the one to go for as she does very few miles. Any experience or advice anyone could share would be appreciated.
Cheers.

My OH had a juke for 3 years, it was a good car. I personally think they look fine, we said it's a piggy bank on wheels.
Hers was new so no reliability issues, it was the 1.5dci so can't comment on petrol engine.
Just be aware it is a Micra on stilts, we didn't need the room so it never bothered us. On the 18" wheels it eats tyres we put our 4th set of fronts on at 35k miles. I'd look for a decent spec one as parking aids are needed, the rear window/ rear view are not good.
They are about the only negatives I can think of.
On the whole they are good cars, it'll be as reliable as any other modern car.

Not sure of your age / if you care but the boot is small and the back seats don't have great space either. Accidental (or planned!) fast cornering in it is like a piggybank on wheels too, I'd agree. It doesn't sound like your GF is but, don't bother with the NISMO version. It's not worth the extra BHP imo, I like the styling of them too!

Yep reason we didn't get one - our push chair didn't fit in the boot - so the missus bought a pug 2008 instead.Other than that wasn't a bad car - we made the mistake of test driving the juke then the quashqui, obviously the quashqui rode better being a bigger car - but the juke wasn't bad. Think we drove n-tec trim.
Seem to remember you could get a boost gauge on the digital display which seemed pointless - can't remember if we drove petrol or diesel.
If you have family I would say stay clear - or if you are planning a family - boots not big enough. We tried the renault captur as well - missus hated the 0.9 turbo engine, she managed to wheel spin it once or twice, and just hated it - liked the rest of the car, but hated the engine. Hence the 1.2 2008 she ended up with.
I once had a rental Juke. It was OK. It was like a tall Micra on big wheels.
It had a (uncalibrated) lateral acceleration gauge on the central display.
You could, of course, hit the maximum "g" by driving fairly normally.
I'm not sure what the point was.
The Stepway (old Clio on stilts) makes more sense.

I've had roughly 3 juke's, 2 Quashqai's and 2 note's in the last 7 or so years, not out of choice I want to stress but because of car scheme makes it so cheap to get a brand new nissan every year.
The Juke in the tekna spec will have all the toys your GF would want but as mentioned above they do seem to eat tyres with 18" alloys on, they are also absolutely terrible in the snow due to light front end with large eco tyres that are originally fitted. Personally I hated having the juke, not because of looks etc but mainly the practicality was awful, the boot is tiny but because of the shape of rear lights its also really narrow opening so with the seats down you can't fit anything in. I always had the 1.5dci manual and never had any issues with the DPF although I've heard plenty horror stories, I would also avoid the auto CVT as it feels like your constantly slipping the clutch with an elastic band feel. If she likes the looks and doesn't mind the practicality side then they are good value and yes most of the parts are Renault including most of the engines.

Time for a new girlfriend?
I had one as a courtesy car once, and can back up the others on here saying the ride and handling was utterly terrible, somehow managing to roll like a yacht AND identify bumps and potholes that had previously gone undiscovered by man.
The drivetrain in the one I had was also truly miserable, being the 1.6 (I think?) diesel with the CVT gearbox. Sounds like you plan to avoid at least the drivetrain element of it, but my overriding impression from the experience was "how the f
