What cars have the highest driving position - Please!!
Discussion
Hi fellow Pistonheaders,
Before I get ordered off the forums, Me un the Missus' did the NC500 over easter (see I am a driving nut) in fact making our jaunt 724 miles long.
We hired a brand spankin' Volvo XC60 D5 Powerplus for the trip. What a car! while sitting in leather and nubuck luxury we were able to see all the views, and had as much power as I wanted on tap.
Apart from the 'do it all in total comfort and safety' aspect, we really liked the high driving position.
So we have had a chat and are thinking of getting an AWD SUV jobbie, specifically with a high driving position. I have visited showrooms, trawled the internet, waded through brochures but there appears to be little information on what I think is the key reason these cars are brought. (So much for informative journalism btw!)
Does anyone know of a source of this info?
I'm looking at XC40 vs Audi Q5 vs BMW X3 vs Kia Sportage, etc.
I have only 3 things that are a must: Climate control, Cruise control and an ability to do 0-60 in 8-ish seconds or less. (hence no Fords even though I am a blue oval fan) The speed thing is what makes a car drivable IMHO, anything slower would be too frustrating.
Over to you.........

Odd choice of the XC40 as that is really a class below the Q5/X3/Sportage etc.I'm looking at XC40 vs Audi Q5 vs BMW X3 vs Kia Sportage, etc.
Or did you mean XC60 as you hired, which is comparable to the others mentioned?
Only source of info, is go and try them all.
From my looking around at Q5, X3 and XC60 a couple of years ago, I'd say there's not much in it between the Q5 and X3 and both are a bit higher than the XC60 (previous version)
Never tried a Sportage, but someone I worked with a few years ago had one, and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread.....
Are you buying new or used?

Get a tuned defender. Mines quicker than 8 seconds to 60
taller than anything else on the road and clad in luxury leather. It will go anywhere you want it to, in any weather...Probably half the price of a Volvo too.
Probably half the comfort and ease of driving though.

XC40 as its a bit shorter in length than the XC60. New or used.... DunnoOr did you mean XC60 as you hired, which is comparable to the others mentioned?

I couldn't see why you mentioned Q5 and X3 as they are similar size (if not bigger in the case of the X3) to the XC60...!?
Sounds like you should be looking at VW Tiguan, Q3, X1/X2, Evoque, new Jag E-Pace, Outlander, X-Trail etc. as well as XC40.

My X3 does 0-60 in 5.1 seconds - is that quick enough?https://www.parkers.co.uk/bmw/x3/estate-2011/xdriv...
Do you want any car with a high driving position or the one with the highest position ?
Being interested in such a car myself I checked out a few cars when I was walking through a car park recently. The full fat Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are generally accepted to be among those with the highest position (no numbers to back it up, sorry) and when I saw an RRS parked beside some model of Kia (might have been a Sportage) the steering wheel was noticeable higher.
If you want a high driving position (but not as high as an RRS) the Seat Ateca 2.0 petrol and Peugeot 3008 with the 1.6THP are near enough to your 0-60 criterion and are cheaper than those you listed.
