Buying extended manufacturer warranty on used car-possible?

What manufacturers offer the ability to purchase extended warranties on used cars when there isn’t a current policy in force i.e. I buy a used BMW which is 5 years old (and maybe not even from a BMW dealer), the usual 3 year warranty has expired and there has been no extended warranty in years 4 and 5 – could I then buy a warranty from my local BMW dealer?

Think Nissan do it.

I keep meaning to enquire for my Leaf which is just about to go over the 60k mile limit.

I would have thought most have the option.

There's also 3rd part warranties but just be careful what these cover ie. not much in my experience
