Fun car for a year, ideas required.
Discussion
I have 9-10k sitting here, that I absolutely, categorically need for an event in just over a years time.
The sensible thing would be to leave it in the bank, but it strikes me as an opportunity to indulge in a third car for a year and enjoy the experience.
Making money isn't important to me, which is fortunate as I'm terrible at that when it comes to cars, but very minimal losses are crucial. Routine maintenance is fine, big bills less so.
Any car would have to live outside, will cover relatively few miles, perhaps 2-3k in the year.
Speed isn't massively important to me, my last "fun" car was a Panda 100HP, and I've got a 234hp ZZR1400 to tick that box.
Daily duties and tip runs/taking the dog about the place are taken car of with my other cars, so this is purely for giggles.
A four seater, no matter how cramped, would make it easier to justify, and actually mean I use the car more.
I'm handy with the spanners, but don't want to spend the year under the car rather than driving.
I'm 39, in a decent area, with a couple a years no claims I can use for this, and fuel economy isn't a concern given the low annual mileage.
That said, my preference is for simpler cars really. I had more fun in a Panda 100hp, than I did in a 420hp 335i for example.
My first thought was ticking a box that I never ticked with an Integra Type R DC2. Values seem to be going one way, although they are an older car not without their issues.
So, in my position, what would you do?

Mercedes SL - specifically the R129, and the 5l v8.
I’ve been after one for a while, and picked up one last week that’s cosmetically a bit tatty for £4.5k. “Perfect” ones are at asking prices >£20k now. I didn’t buy mine with the intention of selling, ever, but If I were going to get one, this year was the year to do it, I believe, before all the prices head North.
Hardtop or convertible, well built, reliable & a v8. What’s not to like?

Ford Capri 2.8i. Fun, cheap parts, and might even turn a profit in a year. Tempted myself now...
