Golf GTD theft risk

Hi, i know nobody can offer any guarantees and all cars are a risk but what is the general comsensus on the theft risk of a Golf GTD Mk 7.5? Is this in the same league as the likes of the Golf R or S3? And how does it compare to a GTI?

A golf gtd wouldn’t be of interest for this, so I would say you’ll be fine.

I had a golf gtd mk6 for 4 years and that was never stolen.

Cant imagine a GTD is high up on the desirable list of crim motors.

Had a Mk7 golf GTi for 4 years with no issues. Then got an R and after 5 months we had an attempted break in for the keys, now back in a GTi.

Thanks for the replies and that’s interesting. Was avoiding the GTI because of theft as would much rather have a GTI than GTD. really appreciate people taking the time to let me know their experiences.

Or go for the 3 door variants - much less likely to get stolen.

I had a MK7 with keyless entry (makes it very easy to steal) and never got stolen. The only problem I had was being mistaken for a drug dealer on two occasions.

Buy the car you want to own, the chance of theft is minimal compared to the chance that you regret your buying decision!

I've heard of one GTD being stolen, mine's been fine for 18 months, plenty of Golf R's around for crims to target.

I think they are also a favourite because they are 4 wheel drive.

Hello there stumbled across this post after thinking the same as the original creator, just wondered what peoples thoughts on the theft risk of a gtd estate would be? As I'm pretty set on getting one and this is the only niggling doubt in my mind!

No interest to thieves for robbery type motives - they want a fast car, not a GTD... however they might steal it for parts (wheels, interior, trim, lights etc). Much less likely though.

You have nothing to worry about... the mk7-7.5 GTD is a joke.

No seriously... we have one in the family - we owned the mk5 GT TDI (DSG) prior .... that thing was a bloody riot.

The new GTD is dull..... absolute drivel.

If you don't want the R, go for a GTI - much better than the GTD.

No more than any other 2.0 diesel estate (not very high).

Thanks guys, I'd go for a gti but I need an estate space so it rules out the gti as if it was an estate I'd be all over one. So I will be owner of gtd soon!
