Hi all, my wife (age 31) just passed her manual driving test. Would like to get something for her to drive around in and hone her manual gearchange skills. When she is comfortable I will put on our daily driver : porsche cayenne.
I would like to get something that we can buy and sell on for very little loss ideally, budget I'm thinking anywhere from £500 to £2000, do not mind stretching it if it is something that I would be able to sell on for a tiny loss after 6 months or so.
I have spoken with the insurers and probably due to her age it does not seem to make much difference in terms of what class of car it is, so we are not limited in performance.
Let me know your suggestions please

Bung her straight in the Porsche. She's 31, not 21. She'll take it easy in order to get used to it, and within a few weeks she'll be like an old hand.

Did not want to make my initial post too long, but she is already on the cayenne insurance, have taken her out a few times but she is not comfortable at all, also she would like to fully acclimatise to manual so she does not forget the skill.

Yaris is the stock answer. Mind you it is a bit of a step from a Yaris to a Porsche.

First car she drove was my 911 turbo, took her to a closed car park near to us and was using to teach her lol.

Mk1 1.8 Focus would be a good choice, nice gearbox, light clutch, pay £500 for a usable one and sell it for the same amount

1.25 or 1.4 fiesta mk6 petrol. As long as regularly serviced and had the cambelt done fairly reliable and as my first car is very easy to drive. Gives confidence through the steering and gearshift that I didn't have with my instructors crappy diesel 65 plate clio. Very slow cars but great to drive for the price

If anyone sees anything on pH classifieds near London, do let me know olease.
There are a lot of trade adverts where they say they have taken a car in part exchange and want to clear it, the prices seem competitive but does this mean that there would be very little prep and that most likely the car will need some work. Of course that would defeat the purpose of trying to buy something reasonable and selling it on for a similar price

Something like this would do her well. Plain and Simple base model golf. 1.4 is a good reliable engine. Located around London (not sure where). Private sale, so cheaper than a dealer. Valued at £1820, offer him £1300.

Not strictly bangers, but with some 'performance', once she gets to drive something faster

Panda 100HP
VW Lupo GTI, or Polo GTI
Citroen C2 VTS

etc etc
