Hi All,

Browsing the classifieds and it strikes me that the Elise and Exige are pretty good value relative to how most performance cars seem to have shot up in value.

I wonder if they will remain this way and why this is? I know the clams are mega money and they have limited usability but still a great weekend car. Look great and lowing running costs.

Thoughts?

I had a s1 for 3 years and sold it for a grand less than I bought it, it is now worth £4K more than that. I then also had an s2 for 3 years and sold it for 2k less than I bought it as I was buying another car and just wanted it gone. That is now also worth at least £4K more.
S1s bottomed our at about 7k but you are hard pressed to find a good one for 11k now.
They are cheap to run of sorts, decent mpg and either rover or Toyota engines but the k series is bad for head gaskets and the suspension etc, certainly on an s1, isn’t up to much so you will spend a lot on upgrades and keeping it in good condition.
My s1 broke down monthly, if not weekly, I had AA Parts and Labour at the time and they must have paid out at least 5k. Parts are generally cheap but labour rates at lotus garages are high and everything takes time as nothing is easily accessible.
I wouldn’t call it a high running cost car but I wouldn’t say they were ‘cheap’ either. You should be guaranteed a few years of decent driving without any depreciation though (depending what you buy).
