I sold my last Impreza off on Friday. £800 plus a swap for his STI rep 2.0 none Turbo. I immediately caught the train and bought my dads old Leon back. He was happy, I was happy. Gone on holiday today, get a message from him saying he had it checked and it needs a new diff. Something I wasn’t told when I had it checked, he wants me to pay £220 for a new diff for it, which I told him I didn’t know it needed a new diff, it’s a used car and that’s a risk, I then sent him the link to a £90 diff for a 2000 Turbo, I already knocked £100 off the price of mine. His STI rep is going to the breakers when I’m home, is this just a case of him trying to get more money out of me?

Easy way to tell if he's trying it on. Tell him you don't think there's anything wrong with the car, ask him to bring it back, pick up his old car and you give him his money back - less £50 or £100 for your trouble.

Presumably you can draw £900 quid ish for it all day long, so if he does call your bluff it won't be too bad. If he says "Yeah but I really want the (new) car" then it's safe to tell him to go away. If you have offered him his money back then he can't really take any further action, can he.

As a trader don’t you offer a warranty on your cars?

I’m not a trader, I hardly see selling off 2 of your cars as trading.

just ignore him.
some stupid peoples first reaction when something goes wrong is to blame others. so naturally the first thing he's done is to try and contact you to fix his problem. . It's not your problem, not even legally. End.

You are selling cars for a profit, I see that as trading

Anyone who thinks selling one of your privately owned cars for £800 constitutes being a trader the put my name down.

OP, if you where unware of the issue, and it wasn't raised at the time of sale, unless you agreed to an3rd party check as a condition of the sale (I'm which case at the £80p mark you're mad) then this is just a chancer. Have you even seen proof of the report? Don't even ask for proof , stick to your guns.

Don't offer anything towards it, it's not your issue.

Car before this one overheated as soon as it hit any traffic, or idling on the drive. Ended up fitting a viscose fan, thermostat stat and rad cap, then later a new rad. Personally I think the seller was unware, as his used didn't highlight it, bit annoying but it was a £500 BMW and I think with hindsight it was actually just the rad cap all along. Car was faultless for three years after thab, bar the elec windows sliders failing and a repainted side I didn't notice till the first sun turned it to chalk!
But the point is I never thought to contact the seller, even though he was a trader. Both agreed and understood the car was sold as seen.

This current car was crap as low idle, pulling away etc till I replaced the cam position sensor, again, I just fixed it and paid for it.

Yeah he can go fk himself over it all, scrapping his when I get back anyway. If selling my personal cars makes me a trader then yeah im a trader, enjoy creating a pointless argument over it.

You seem to be buying an awful lot of cars to sell judging by what you’ve shared on these forums.

This is exactly the type of person I'd expect to encounter where a cheap Impreza is involved.
