Hello PH'ers..

Right! I'm in the mood to buy something for a bit of fun. It could be a classic, modern classic, track weapon (but road legal)....

As an avid driver with some motorsport experience I keep going back to the E46 M3 CSL and Ultima GTR.. clearly one will be a better investment than the other but interested to know if i have missed any other options before i pick up the classifieds. Would be great to hear from any owners as well with first hand experience of living with them. Budget will be 60k.

Let me know your thoughts!

Cheers

Love these.

But surely the CSL over the 1M?

Not worried too much about spare change!

I'm biased, but just get the Ultima and tick the box.
There isn't really too much like it

Probably easier to just link to my Ultima thread in the Reader's Cars bit...

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

But,

To live with? Fine. Every drive is "all about the car" but that's no bad thing for a toy.
Running costs are surprisingly cheap. Insurance is surprisingly cheap.
It's a fairly big lump of power in a lightweight car so performance is more than adequate.
In terms of maintenance, the design of the car means everything is easily accessible.

Like I say, it's a good box to tick.

Yellow ls7 Ultima offered on fb this week at £62k on the Super Cars for sale group.
Looked well sorted, lots of the factory niggles resolved, proper cooling and a.c. etc

I'd go CSL.

Raw, rewarding and sounds great.

You could have your fun, drive it hard and when you sell you will likely get back more than you paid for it.

Whats not to like?

Also depends if you are hands on or not, you'll need to be spanner friendly and willing to look after things if you buy an Ultima, if you went R8 you most probably can't and won't lay a spanner on it or need to unless a shock leaks.

The ultimate is a car that looked mighty impressive at the Silverstone classic a few years ago. Intimidating functional race car with road use.

It looks like it’s doing 200mph parked up.
The noise it makes on start up

It’s one of those cars which years and years after you’ve sold it you’d have a picture of it up in the house. Not so sure an R8 or any of the other suggestions would

E46 M3 CSL is a lovely car I just wonder if you’d rather something that is utterly bonkers fast lol fast if you like ie the Ultima.
