Trying to get head around whether this IS a good idea vs our BMW salesman trying it on?
As far as he's concerns it's a no brainer.
What does PH think??

He benefits from you having it, but it's your choice.

If you decide you want it, you can almost certainly get it cheaper elsewhere.

Some insurance companies will replace a car with a new one if written off in the first two years (eg NFU) . Do you really need GAP if you have that?

Don't buy it off your supplying dealer.
Go to someone like ALA (see the stickies in General Gassing) or Questor etc.
You will get it for a fraction of the price.

Benefit to him selling it: Commission
Benefit to you buying it: Potential to avoid large loss if car written off.
Benefit to you buying it from him: Probably a much larger bill than buying it from elsewhere...

Dealer prices are massively overinflated for these policies. As above, definitely look for a quote elsewhere if you want it.

Salespeople will give you the hard sell on these as they make more commission these days from the bullst add-ons like GAP and alloy wheel cover than from selling the cars.
