I am looking at part exing my current twin charged 2009 Golf 1.4 TSI as its the 09 plate and has gone on me, I was interested in getting a Polo GTI but the only years that fall within my budget are also apparently not the best engines, similar to my golfs... so that has put me off as obviously I dont want same problematic car

Can anyone recommend some nice hatchbacks for me please, I like them to look quite nice, for an idea I like the newer shaped golfs, the new shape polo, I like the new clios and I like the new hatchback meganes too..... anything similar to these sort of hatchbacks, that isnt dreadfully slow..... but mostly I dont want to get a car that is known to commonly have problems (Like my golf)

My max budget is £8000

Not sure of the model but have you looked at the Lexus hatchback? Bound to be reliable.

Was recommended a Polo BlueGT in another thread which I have now set my heart on, it is a 64 plate with the ACT
Would you agree this is also a good car?

It depends what you want? A drivers car? A hot hatch? Eco Car? Just another VW?

If you just want a cheap to run, Polo size car, with peace of mind over serious mechanical failures, £8k will get you a 2-3 year old Kia Rio with the balance of it's 7 year warranty remaining.

But it won't be fast

No, it's wk.

Focus ST or megane rs250 were good suggestions or maybe a Golf Gti.

In that case save a bit more & get one of these:

These are more reliable than the VW's, smart looking & swift.

What reason is a 64 plate Polo BlueGT bad though? Genuine question

It's a crap drive at which point you're just paying for the badge & if you want an average car there are better ones out there for your budget.

Get the Megane & trust me it will be rarely left in the corner for weeks.

Toyota Yaris. smile

LOL, see I'm stalking you.

I really don't know what I would recommend - Prob a Ford or a Mazda to be honest. they look quite nice, reasonably 'hot' and are pretty reliable. The last place I would put my money would be in VW / BMW / Porsche / Merc.
But then,I've got an old Saab, which ticks most of those boxes at £1500. so that's what I would buy, and put the remaining 10k in the bank.
You might even think about an old E46 323 or something, though it would be expensive in ongoing small maintenance costs.

I sold my E46 325ti Sport Compact for just under £1,500 earlier this year because I wanted an estate, but it was still going strong at 103K miles.

Just out of curiosity don't leggy Saabs throw up expensive issues from time to time too?

Well they might do, but even though mine is old, (2006), it's not leggy, and hasn't thrown any undue issues, and cost me £1300 from a dealer. Issues have been a wheel speed sensor and a wheel bearing, so hardly end of the world.. The Saab engines are known for being tough as old boots though. And a big big on a £1500 car is not a big deal - sell it and start again. It's only ever going to cost £1400 absolute maximum.
