Selling with a remap.
Discussion
So a selling question, but figured this was the best sub forum to ask...
So I’m selling my XC90, it’s a nice tidy example, but about 6 months ago I had a gentle remap on the D5 to smooth out the power delivery. Obvs all declared to my insurance etc.
Now if I was selling a JDM import or similar I appreciate a remap would be a selling point. But I’m a selling a family diesel 4x4. I’m curious/concerned that if I put in the advert ‘remapped’ that may put some potential buyers off.
My options are -
1. Put it in the ad, it might appeal to some.
2. Pay £200 to have the remap reversed.
3. Don’t mention it, and just sell the thing (not overly comfortable with the morals of this)
So would a remap be a selling point, or put you off?
Eta- it should sell for ~£13k so it’s not a snotter, and if it was for sale now, it would be one of about 5 for sale in the country with that spec.

Write the ad correctly, come across as a grown up adult who did it to improve the smoothness of the ride, see if anyone buys the car. If you struggle to sell remove it and then re-advertise? Or put an option in the ad that if any potential buyer wants it removed you can do it prior to purchase? I suspect anyone being put off might either think A. you are a yobbo lol or B. that they are worried about getting it past insurance. Hopefully doing the above will help?

Put something like "Remapped 6 months ago at [insert reputable company name here] to provide a smoother engine response and improve economy" - if that is what the remap is said to offer.
I doubt anyone thinks that an XC90 is going to be out racing against Fiestas and Corsas.

Remap wouldn't put me off, In short it might be a benefit for people towing also.

A remap (or any other form of modification) is an instant no from me, I imagine it would be for most people looking at diesel Volvo SUVs. I would remove it, though even that is a bit disingenuous as it fails to disclose that the engine has operated in modified form for some time.
Agree with this. But you can't go back in time so remove the map and sell it as standard. Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
