not a daily but needs to be reliable?!?!? for towing all over the country
Landcruiser?.. 3.0 / 4.2 but a low mileage for 4k+ seems to be around 150 000 miles

They come with Mercedes ML running gear so are pretty robust & will tow your 1800kgs with ease plus they'll be a nicer place to sit after a long weekends racing.

I would say you need a Discovery 4 HSE. Should get one for £17k.

I'm sure there are some in the classifieds...... whistle

I'd look at the newest Shogun you can get in your budget, miles aren't an issue.

I did have a brief look at these earlier this year at around the same sort of budget, the buying guides were very thin on the ground because there's almost nothing that goes wrong with them.

You might be able to get a new shape L200 in your budget, they're a nice truck. I don't know if your budget would stretch to a Ford Ranger, specifically one with the 3.2 5cyl engine, friend of mine uses them for his business where they're towing 3 ton+ for over 25k miles a year without fault.

Heard bad things on pajero shogun forum about the 3.2s
Argh why is hard to find something around 3500-5000 4x4 that I can rely on
What people experience with a 90k Face-lift x5?
Or the grand cherokee

Thanks

The Grand Cherokee & ML I listed will both be reliable (they both have the same running gear) as a rule they just keep running & are considered more robust than the X5 but get the preventative work done on an X5 (Swirl flaps etc) & they're decent enough the one weak spot on them is the gearbox.

There's a WJ Overland in his list too - has the advantage that it's the stronger 545RFE rather than the 42RE used with the 4.0, and the Overland is the 10% pokier Hi-Output version of the 4.7, plus has the quadradrive system with the vari-lok diffs front and rear. I had one, and aside from some minor niggles (things like HVAC blend doors and window mechanisms, both of which are notorious for failing), it was a really great vehicle.

MPG might be a concern if you worry about that, though!

I'm leaning towards a 3.2 di-d shogun if I'm honest..
It's just do what it does!

Hello peoples
I have done the best thing and gone out and done some test driving.
effectively the shogun and path finder i have on my list was old school type 4x4s, then i had a load of the new style common rail engine'd 4x4/suv things

So after driving a few i have decided i definitely want a common rail diesel, they are so much ncier to drive on a daily basis use, i am not going off roading.

I tried a disco 3 i really liked it but there are soooo many horror stories i am not that brave!

I think after driving them i am down to either a x5 facelift 3.0D or a Jeep grand cherokee 3.0 crd i really liked both! so it which ever i find first
Looking at a 54-06 x5 around 100K miles and a 06-08 grand cherokee around 80-100K miles

lets see what i come back with at the weekend
