Time was when I used to enjoy the whole choosing and buying a new car game. Nowadays I love looking at and chasing classic cars, but moderns and the dealers involved just leave me cold. So can anyone helpme ? I'm looking for an estate car, primarily for my wife - something to replace her horrible Citroen C6 Grand Picasso box. No longer need 7 seats, but do need a low load lip and a flat floor for carrying dogs or equipment (spinning wheels, looms, and similarly awkward shaped stuff). After a skiing accident, it has to be an auto (or semi-auto, no clutch pedal).

Usage is rural - vast majority is country lanes and villages with the occasional trip down one or two motorway junctions to feed merchants. Suspect petrol rather than diesel. I'm not impressed by badges such as BMW, Mercedes or Audi and not prepared to pay extra for them. Distinctly unimpressed with the design and build quality of the Citroen, which puts me off that badge.

Don't really care whether it's new or used, prefer no more than about three years old, budget say £10-£20K - less would be good, more would be ok.

Focus estate seems to fit the bill. Should I also look at Golf, Leon, Octavia, Astra ? Anything else ?

Thanks - is the V60 the same sort of size as the Focus ?

Bit bigger, but not much. V50 (not made now) is focus sized, maybe a touch bigger, but not much.
Nothing wrong with the focus mind. Anything after 2011 have decent engines, but the 2.0 prob the best.

The Volvo V60 isn't that big boot wise - sort of between hatchback and estate.

Octavia is the default practical option really.

Another vote for the V60. We've had ours 2 years and it's been great.

Leon ST with the 1.4ACT petrol engine, decent performance and economy without resorting to a diesel. Octavia if you need a bit more space.
