CL (C216) V S-class (W222) - ZX10 ?
Discussion
So, late facelift 4.7 CL or early S350d W222
You’re pretty clued up on these zx, what are your thoughts? Anyone?
Im actualy wanting to go further with the luxury genre aftr getting the jag xf last year, my first thoughts are a facelift 2014 XJ, but the aforementioned have got me twitching again..
i didnt tick some boxes when i got the xf so this time i really want the cooled seats, adaptive cruise but also now want the active / massage seats sincebtrying them in the latest s class (vast improvement over 2005 seats i had in sl55)
Double glazing would be a cool to have also, was this standard on the CL? Think it is on xj and S
Power or AMG badging is not an allure for me as been there, as long as 300hp is on tap then that’s fine, hence the 350d, chipped and we’re at that mark, saying that I don’t mind paying for amg if it gets me the luxuries as standard, I see cl63s seem to have the cooled nappa seats or designo, not sure if massage was standard yet..
Interior must be light but I don’t want the dark exterior which looks like a wrap might be necessary, happy to do that.

My uncle has that very CL500 & he loves it, map one & you'll be a smidge over 500bhp but the big improvement is in the throttle response which becomes more linear so it feels more like the N/A version) they are great cars (my dad has a CL63) the S Class wouldn't get a look in unless I was sitting in the back.
They're a superb car the engine is a peach (I have the same one in my E500) lots of torque which helps it waft they're super quiet but you can't beat popping the roof open, dropping all the windows away & enjoy the light airy feeling, I agree it has to be a light interior as that improves the cabin no end, if you can find one with the Ivory finish that's the best.
Air Cooled & Massage seats is a rare option on the 500's (my uncle has air cooled seats) but not an impossible one to find I will say that the aircon is that good that you won't miss it (unless you've had it before) as much a I love the XJ they're a super saloon bargain but IMO you can't beat a coupe.
I think this one has the spec you're looking for:

I think these are slightly lower spec:

Thanks for the input and links, liking the first one, has the HK to, a wrap and all is done..
I hear what your saying re s class but that new interior is sublime up front and really does trump the cl.
Trying to find my spec in the poverty S could be a tad difficult to, 25k doesntmgo far on these yet either..
looks wise outside the cl is more agressive but the S looks so elegant with the advantage of folding seats and four doors (an advantage for me but not absolutely necessary)
The drive? Dont know, cl is same chassis as old S class, so is new S a better drive? Will drive one of course but have you driven one?
If you take the power train advatage away from cl then things are a closer call, remember i’m only after 300bhp, though its been a long time away fom 500hp so i could be underestimating the draw
Birthday today so might grab some time and try the s and cl back to back
Eta: how does the Harmon Kardon system in CL stack up to Jag 1200w meridien? Not heard better than the jag, naim system in bentley closest, bose in audi nowhere near (stereo is important to me)

I've driven both & the new S Coupe the CL is a true GT the new S Class is a good steer but not markedly better plus the CL feels IMO more special, as you said you'll be looking at a base spec S Class & as good as the diesel is it doesn't compare to the standard 4.7TT.
I'd be buying the CL each & every time unless the S Coupe came into the equation.
Now here's a leftfield 300bhp Four door option it ticks all the boxes it does have all the things you listed plus some extras (heated rear seats anyone?) you haven't thought of.

If you're not bothered about the badge then these are definitely worth a look just look at the interior, plus you have two years Manufacturers Warranty left.
I've driven the coupe version in the states & it's a very capable steer think Lexus.

Remakable, never knew, just the massage seats missing...
no problem at all with badges, id be happy if cars didnt have them, i remove where i can.
Have you seen the new geely interior?

Yes I had seen it, it's very nice, if badges aren't a concern I'd definitely take a look at the Genesis, I've supplied two so far both are very happy, it'll depend on how bad you want the massage seats, they do seem to get snapped up when they come on the market.no problem at all with badges, id be happy if cars didnt have them, i remove where i can.
