Mazda CX-7 - Any good?

I am interested in maybe getting one of these, it would be the diesel version and preferably a 2012 with the top package so includes leather/xenon etc.

Does anyone have any experiences with these and if there is anything to look out for or avoid?

Also, if anyone recommends something similar which is better then thoughts on this would be appreciated, I'm looking for either a 4x4 type or an estate as I need more space now and something comfortable on long distances.

I'm based in Austria and cars in general are much more expensive than the UK, its basically double the price here compared with a similar CX-7 in the UK market! I miss the used market in the UK...

I bought one new in 2007 and it's still in the family.

Without giving you chapter and verse of why we still have it I'll say this. We normally change our main car every 2 years or so. We kept this for five and when we bought a new Land Rover to replace it, we still didn't move it on. Eventually it found a home with my FIL and it is still going strong. There is no intention to replace it.

Mine is/was a 2.3 Petrol with around 260 BHP. Decent performance and 28MPG. Big enough for our needs but not too big.

Its not a premium car but it's well built with zero squeaks and rattles. It feels quite old fashioned inside but I'm comparing it to a 2018 Discovery Sport.

Reliability?

It ate its Turbo when new. That was sorted under warranty. The only big bill in 11 years was recently. £1,000 on some replacement if suspension bits. To be fair we were a bit rough with it in its earlier years when it was regularly driven enthusiastically on Scottish country lanes and rough tracks.

I'd say one bigish bill in 11 years ain't bad.

It coped with snow in the big winters round 2010 brilliantly.

I had forgotten to be honest. And the council replaced the street furniture after the other car demolished what she hadn't.

As for Tony's garden wall. Well that was just poor workmanship.

Thanks for the feedback, the overall opinion seems to be that they are decent for what they are, maybe slightly sportier feeling than some rivals to drive.

I tested a Rav 4 177hp diesel and also a CX-7 and I preferred the CX-7, interior felt more modern and was just a nicer place to be with more extras as standard.

Prices here vary but are much more expensive than the UK, a 2012 diesel will be somewhere around 13-15k euros with lowish miles, ive even seen a very low miles one that's been for sale for ages which is advertised at something like 27k euros! Mad...
