Well the 1.0 polo is going back next month and the kids don't need a cheap to insure car anymore so time for something interesting

I fancy a gt86, would be ideal, reasonable costs, good fun to drive but they hold their values well and aren't exactly cheap second hand

I do have a 3.2 carrera as well as my real fun car.

Like coupes and my last fun car before the polo was an rx8 which was almost perfect for me (except 14mpg!), the 86 seems like a perfect replacement.

But, lad goes to uni next month too so will probably have to pay rent for the first year at least.

Probably have a 10k budget which just seems to miss the good 86's by at least 3k

Ah well.

What about a hot hatch with that budget you can land yourself a great drivers car in the Megane RS these are a sweet a steer as the GT86 if not dare I say it more engaging they're depreciating slowly & it's a nice fillet to the Porsche:

What about the Mx5? It’s the same philosophy as the GT86, highly reliable. You’ll find NBs and NCs comfortably within your budget

Mx 5 is out for a couple of reasons, will need to carry three people and luggage some times and mainly, the wiife wants one and would kill me.

As I said the Megane is a good fillet to your Carrera I'd say test drive one the other option is the Focus in ST-3 form is a good option not as sharp as the Megane but it has a cracking engine & still sweet chassis, it's the better daily but as I say try a Megane.

I bought the ST & never regretted it once (my friend had the RS250, he now has an RS275 Cup S) as that 5 pot made up for the slightly softer chassis.
