Am 23 and looking at what to drive as my first car. Have currently £2k in the bank and looking at a budget of £4-5k by next month including insurance (if I pay everything outright which I may not if the car stretches out of it's budget). Everything looks so gloomy on Autotrader. Coopers come up every now and again and I'm drawn. There's one I'll keep an eye out for. Pistonheads got any ideas for what to look at?

Should be sensible and just collect my no claims but I wanna be able to have a little fun too... Couple of track days here and there, etc. Cheers for anything you've got for me; Apologies if this thread comes up 20 times a day and you're already bored.

If your mileage suits a diesel... I'm just part exchanging my Mini One D (2010 edition) and as a first car for someone- it's a good laugh. The diesel makes it feel zippy with the torque and it's cheap to insure and will get you 50mpg+ (I get excited at junctions and floor it and I still get 48mpg).

I didn't spend a penny on it since I picked it up in December despite being a heavy miler and putting a further 10k miles on it since - I'm selling it now for £2k.
