Should I Get Something Fresh

Hi all,

I'm just going into my 3rd (and final) year of uni and have owned a 2007 1.8 MX5 since January 2018. Value of the car is around 4k and I've got around 3k in the bank that I could potentially spend on getting a different used car.

I'm considering an early 2.7 Boxster 987 that I'll still be happy to own and run when I get a grad job.

Thoughts? TIA!

As a student, I wouldn't get another car.
What if the porsche throws you a big bill?

End of the day its your money, buy what YOU want and what makes YOU happy. Nobody else can make the decision for you.

I'd keep the Mazda for another year.

If you don't already have a job offer on the table from a sandwich year or summer placement then those savings could help to set you up somewhere should you need to move to get the right job.

Also, if you have saved 3K over the past couple of years, and manage to keep saving at that rate then you'll have even more in savings, early 987s will be even cheaper or a year newer than what you are currently looking at and (once employed) you'll know whether the more expensive monthly outgoings of the Porsche are possible within your means which would then be the perfect time to pull the trigger.
