Hi guys,

Had an additional to my family quite recently and feel a need to upgrade from my beloved 3 door golf.

Managed to narrow down to 3 options and would appreciate any of your thoughts.

1) Skoda Superb 1.4 TSI SportLine 150bhp
2) BMW 4 series 2.0 420i Gran Coupé 5dr
3) Tiguan 1.4 TSI 150 bhp SE

Driving conditions: short commute on a country road with steep hills and bends, long weekend road trips.
Budget: £20k
Not a fan of Audi

Cheers

I'd say the Superb out of the three, just so long as it's manual and not DSG.

Had a similar dilemma recently, wife was keen on a 440i GC but ended up with a x3.

Baby due soon and while big enough, consider that getting young kids in and out of car seats isn't easy as it's a low car.

Tiguan would be the most practical option.

they are quite different choices

I had a Superb and its a great car with stacks of room. It'll look better than the Tiguan too (not a fan of the Tiguan's looked apart from the R line)

I was looking at 4 series at the weekend - reckon it's too small for newborns (I have two 4 yr olds so need a lot less stuff).

Answer = Superb

Easy choice - Superb - looks good, drives well, mountains of space.

While the other choices will do some things better the Superb is the best all rounder

If you're looking at a Superb then I'd go looking for a petrol Mondeo Vignale it's a better steer just as spacious I have the diesel version & really can't fault it.

Depends how much space you need and how large a car you want. For me the Superb is too large so the Karoq was the logical choice, despite having less space it's still a big car in a smallish footprint.

Thanks for all the replies.

After test driving all three I've gone on to reserve the Superb - best value for money! For £19k you get responsive petrol engine, heated seats, sunroof, LED lights and the list just goes on. HUGE space at the back and boot could fit a fridge. Yet, it doesn't feel big when driving. Parking might need some adjusting to after golf...

Standard packaged, entry petrol engine Tiguan is one of the most boring cars I've driven. Once you feed it with extra specs it gets too expensive. Same true for 4 series.

the Mondeo is nowhere near as big in the back as a Superb, which is only really beaten by LWB 7 series and S Class type cars.
Agree on the mondeo being a better steer though, the Skoda is generic VW through and through. Nothing wrong with it, it’s just not as dynamic.

I would seriously question how much more "dynamic" a large family estate is compared to another large family estate. I would probably not use the word dynamic to describe either, which seems perfectly ok for the intended use.

Had a Tiguan hire car on holiday, it was a pudding.

Would agree with Superb for VfM, would also agree that the Mondeo would be a bit less boring to drive.

No indeed, I was meaning as a relative measure.
