I have 3 kids, teenagers now and they are rapidly outgrowing the Jag XF i'm currently running as the family wagon.

So the question is what would you buy in this budget.

Would you go for a new lesser brand (kia, jeep, ford) or older premium (Audi, Merc) brand??

I hate to say it, but a Ford Galaxy at that kind of price, ageing BMW,Merc etc SUV's are into getting needy, and can be very expensive to fix, they have higher VED by and large and a bigger engine with perhaps 10 mpg less on average.

For the job in hand of carting three teenagers about we had one and it was fantastic, didnt cut a dash at the school gates but it did its job very well with no agro, my cousin bought an older X5 and it need various suspension, a propshaft and various other bits. They are more complex, heavier and for the budget much older, ten grand goes further than with the premium brands.

Also, most dont have seven proper seats, apart from the XC90 and they are quite as spacious, as obviously you have the AWD gubbins and higher ride height to accommodate.

People tend to look down their noses at the Galaxy with its Addison Lee Chic, but there is a reason they use them, and not X5's, you need a taxi with three teenagers.

We had a 2.0 Ghia model, would be a Titanium now, the 1.8 is a bit underpowered, the 2 litre is better if not what you would call fast, perfectly adequate and you can get higher power variants (ours was 138 bhp)

Yeah I would agree with J4cko and offer the S-Max as another alternative. Really liked and miss our 2.0 240hp Titanium X and might just be about to look at another one for family duties.
