Buying a messed up S Type R (2003)
Discussion
Hi folks,
my name is Thomas. Scaryly 40 years old (but only on the outside) and just returned from a six months tour through South America in my little KTM.
So here I am now. Not much to do job wise, spending more time than the misses can appreciate in my little workshop with a couple buddys and it's itching... -Something stupid has to come against grey every day stuff.
I do own an unrestaured Mustang from 69 which urgendtly needs to be completely taken appart and being rebuild. But I bought it about 10 years ago and didn't find the tools and place to get it fixed when the motivation was still around for that particular project.
Now I just want to get him done well in Poland and then sell the car in good shape.
So what now? The Jag S Type R crossed my way. I still remembered the first pre 2002 series, which was to me like a Ford with leather interior.
But then I stumbled into the post 2002 and the R!
The cirteria was: The most power for the least money. Voila!
To make a long story short: It will be a fun car only. I do have a daily driver and a little camper van for travelling. But I need some little challenge for the nice days. Nothing perfect but something charming.
So I thought about selling the Mustang next year and then byuing a Jag with round about 65-80k miles.
Then I found this: 2003, 130k miles, long scratch on the right, engine limping interior in good shape for 2,5k €.
So now the brain starts to send out strange signals...
I'm tending to check the car out thouroghly if I should go there. Compression check, fault codes, rust, the full program. My idea is to either rebuild the car or take it apart and selling the parts. If there's a compression failure, the whole story would end right at that moment anyways and I would switch to plan B. Saving money, buyning somethint solid.
Otherwise I would like to fix the car to good driving conditions, using it for max. 2-3000km/year. Workshop, painter, everything available and GB is a fantastic source to get parts way cheaper than in Germany. I've shipped quite some engines from there already...
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Thomas
