Be looking at a new car once our house buying goes through (couple months hopefully!).

Thinking financing 10k and the rest I'll just pay.

Trouble is we can't agree on a car....

Mrs wants something small but 5 door, auto and light to drive... I don't..

I've looked at a variety of cars Online.. I can either get two cars and get the Mrs a cheap late shape Polo.

Needing work isn't an issue I run a garage.

I was looking at nice Range Rovers etc and then realised I'm only looking at them as they are flash but I'm not interested in that.. I want something fast and fun to drive and must have a decent sound system.

I've looked at:
Golf R - pros is she likes them. Cons of want a MK7 so it's slightly higher miles.
Audi S5 - I really like them but no tuning opportunity.
RS3 - probably top of the list however in my budget either older and high miles or newer and been written off (doesn't bother me if repaired properly).
Audi S3 - probably a good choice but then I'd want a RS3
E90 M3 coupe. - love them however again tuning limited and older in my budget
C63 - think I'd love this personally. Mrs hates them and would be about 10yr old on my budget.
Jaguar XFR - Mrs hates them but 5.0 SC. Not as quick as a Golf R etc though!
Audi S4 - would be quite nice haven't thought about it much!

Any I've missed?

As new as possible, prefer German. I run a garage so repairing them doesn't scare me.

Oh I forgot about the M135i but I'd definitely want adaptive suspension and Harmon Kardon!

The Golf R is slagged off a lot on here but it looks a great all round car to me.
If you dont need 4wd then a Gti is probably a better choice but if it were me the extra power and 4wd would sway it.
The only negative for me with the R is the seats.

I’m not sure how far you will get looking for M3’s and C63’s for £15k, from light browsing previously that would be bottom of the market. Of course you have knowledge of cars / repairs so could spot a bargain better than many I’m sure. I also think the facelift C63 ages the pre-facelift terribly so of the two I’d be looking at the M3 in your shoes. M3cutters has a lot of private sellers so might be worth a browse.

If you’re not afraid of repairs I’d be looking at the v10 M5 and M6. That budget opens up quite a range of cars.

Jag XFR not as quick as a Golf R?
Not sure about that one, maybe from 0-30 or 40

I might be biased, but the M135i the one I chose out of those. The ZF Auto box is awesome, although I went for the manual.

It has lots of tuning opportunities, the JB4 remap will take it to near 400 bhp. You can also get a mechanical differential but the e-diff is fine for 95% of the time.

The M Performance exhaust is also a must have! I also would recommend the pro nav and black panel display as it makes the car look and feel a lot more premium inside.

Audi S1. Some examples in your budget. Helpfully, once the manufacturer warranty expires (which it will have done on 2015 plate examples), you can remap it to 300bhp by REVO or other, then all your criteria are met in one go.

I think for that budget it is hard to look past an m135i even if it is hideously ugly. Thr zf auto is about as good as autos get currently and 400bhp seems easily attainable. Also with some suspension mods they can be made to handle quite well.

If you only need 2 seats, a Z4 MR might be a good option!

RS3 for me but test drive them both to see if you want to save up the extra outlay.

2011-2013 RS3 is getting a little long in the tooth. Its based on the 8P platform which started in 2003, hence you do see a lot of 2003 A3 with the 2012 facelifts.
In terms of tech it is very old, however the engine is a real peach.
