Can't decide (R8 V10, 991.2S, C7 Stingray)
Discussion
Hi
Normally not much of a doubter but I'm a bit stuck.
Got a budget of around £55k for something a bit special but suited as a DD as well.
I want decent performance and good handling and a decent dealernetwork if I travel.
The car will be UK registered but will be driven half the time on the continent so LHD or RHD isn't really an issue.
My previous cars included a 360hp Scirocco R, aTvr Cerbera 4.5, a 410hp BMW 1M so something atleast in those lines
Currently doubting on a 2011 manual R8 V10, a 2014 Manual Corvette Stingray and a 2012 Porsche 991.1 carrerra S PDK.
Never had an automatic before but I think Porsches is one of the best and their manuals aren't that nice so PDK is the way to go.
The Porsche is the slowest, most expensive and with 55K the highest mileage but very pretty nd will no doubt handle very well (IMHO it also sounds the worst as I don't like flat sixes). The lack of torque is also worrying me a bit.
I think the Corvette will be the most fun will handle great and it sounds amazing (big V8 fan) and heaps of NA torque. it's more aggressive then pretty but black outside and brown leather is about as classy as a Corvette gets
And at £45K with 19K miles it's considerably cheaper then the other two.
The R8 is 54K with 27K miles. To me a very good looking and timeless design. The V10 is supposed to be a cream of an engine. it's the only real supercar here but I'm sure it'll be easy to live with on a daily basis.
Sounds awesome as well and come on where else are you going to find an gated manual V10
I think they're pretty relaible aswell? (please correct me if I'm wrong)
So where would your hard earned cash go to?
Cheers!

All way out of my budget but I have spent a few hours behind the wheel of a V10 R8 and a 991.2 Carrera S (manual).
The Porsche is probably the better drivers car but after about 30 minutes behind the wheel the novelty had wore off. I don't doubt it comes "alive" at speed but lets be honest, there's not much chance to drive like that. The R8 felt special the whole time and the noise really enhanced things further.

Thanks for the replies so far.
Was already leaning towards the R8 and this confirmed it.
No doubt the porsche will be a good car but the R8 will feel more special more of the time.
The corvette is also till a performance bargain at the price.
Will try and have a drive in those two this week and decide
Exciting times!

I didn’t drive the corvette as in the end I decided the left hand drive was going to be too much of a pain. I also considered 997 turbo but in the end it had to be the r8 as for me was just the best choice and hopeful won’t depricate to much. So far so good and compared to the gtr I had before which needed servicing every 6 months should be cheaper than that, just make sure you get a thorough inspection as mine highlighted a weeping shock which is common and expensive
