I want to buy a toy. I'm looking sporty car but I have some constraints.

The first constraint is my budget. I'm looking around £2000 to £3000.
The second is my height. I'm just over 6ft 4 with long legs.
The third is I don't want to go too far over the 100K miles.

I'd love a Mk1 Audi TT, but I'm pretty sure I won't fit. I think I could probably say the same for the Mazda MX5 and definitely the Toyota MR2 (I tried a W30 when they were new in the late 90s and my head didn't go below the roof line!)
Others on the radar are the BMW Z3 and Mercedes SLK (MK1).

I'd like to hear your opinions. What do other tall people have?

Ok. Thats good to hear. I might need to find one to try then, although they are becoming like hens teeth around my area.

6' 6" here too and yes you should fit in a Mk1 TT - you might be able to squeeze in a Mk2 MX5, I did for nearly 3 years but looking back I don't know how I did - it was very tight and a bit painful to drive on a long trip (not a lot of space in the footwell, couldn't take left foot off of clutch).

This is looking good then.

Does anyone know if the convertible and coupe TT legroom differs?

I do like the SL. I'll have a look and see where they start.

Shame you can't stretch to a TVR all built for Wheeler who was 6'5" I think.

BMWs are generally suitable for the long-legged and you can pick-up an early Z4 with less than 100k miles for circa £3k nowadays. smile

Ok. That’s interesting. I’d not even looked at the Z4s yet.

Audi TT is not a sports car; is for posers

But an old TVR, Boxster, etc which is a proper sports car you will fit in

I’d hoped that the posers had moved on from the MK1 TT laugh

You'll fit in a TT just fine I'm 6'7 & have no problem driving them, yes they feel a bit to small for my liking but you'll be okay.

Z4 is a good shout but watch out for cracked manifolds on the 2.0 model as it's a very expensive fix.

Or go for something with a bit more space & you'll be much more comfortable, I'm bias as a I've had few & still own one but the CLK ticks a lot of boxes.

They come in coupe & convertible form as well as having a wealth of engines to choose from, they're a good option.
