Hi All,

Im new here and have been reading different forums about the cars I've been interested in. To give you guys an idea, I'm looking for the following:

1 - Budget = £60k-£90k
2 - Cars of interest = 911, Rapide s, DB9, AMG GT, Gallardo (LP550 or LP560)

One of the biggest concerns I have is that the car shouldn't lose a lot of value, so just need your expertise on what you guys might think would hold the most value. I've heard people talk about the 458 and hurracan to hold its value however thats well above my budget.

Look forward to your response and thanks in advance!

Skyline R34 GTR.

Although prices may have calmed compared to recent years, with the impending 25yr import rule looming for the US market I cant see them dropping in value.

Early McLaren should be on your list. Should have suffered the worst of depreciation.

If you can live with it, a Nomad or Atom appear to be fairly deprecation proof

Any of the ‘sports’ variants of main stream manufacturers like BmW, Audi etc will drop like a stone as there are too many of them. You missed the 458 boat. An air cooled 911 would be in budget but question marks on when that bubble will burst and how far values may fall.

What are you looking for; nearly new, classic, coupe, 4seater, etc etc?..

What are your plans for it? Garage queen in the hope of investment or daily driver? Start putting decent miles on these cars and that will also effect the value

any limit on age or running costs?

I'd look at 996/997 GT3's or an M3 CSL.

if running costs weren't too much of an issue maybe Ferrari 355, 360 or 458 or a gallardo.

Thanks for sending the list, the only ones I think could possibly fit my criteria would be the M4 or C63 but ill go through the list shortly!

I did have the mclaren in mind and saw a decent 12c for sale, by the time I decided to give it a shot that specific car got sold. Don't really know much about these whether they would hold their value or not
To be honest I don't have anything precise in my mind but something not too old say 2009-2010 onwards or atleast one of newer model variants of the specific models. So for example Im interested in the 911 991 model. I had the carrera s 2 years back and sold it last year losing only a few thousand pounds, just checked their recent prices and they're still selling for the sameish sort of prices. The plan is to just have a nice car for say 6-8 months and not lose too much value once I sell it, won't be driving a lot but maybe around 2k miles at most in these few months...

I don't think McLaren should appear on any list where the owner cares about depreciation. Their values crash at an alarming rate, and buying one and hoping it won't continue is pretty optimistic. You might be lucky - but you probably won't.

Equally, I wouldn't consider some of the cars that have been listed that have shot up in value in recent years. E.g 360s have gone up massively - they might stay there but I think it's more likely that stuff like that will start gradually reducing again. Maybe ok if you're going to keep it for a short period, but not sure I'd chance it.

I think suggestions for stuff like GT3s etc are probably safer.

Actually it's Lamborghini who make the Gallardo.

I have just gone through the GT3's for sale and they're slightly over my budget, do the GTS hold value too?

I think the 997 is slightly too old, the newer 991 is what I'm kind of interested, I know the GT3 etc are quite expensive in this model but do you think it would keep its value after say 6 months?

458 is way above the budget but I think Lp550 could be an option as long as it wouldn't lose much of its value?

I think you may have your heart set on a 991 (understandably so).....having kept an eye on prices over the last few months, they seem to have stablised but not sure if this is a stale summer prices phenomenon... long term, they say that the last of the non turbo'ed 911 will be enviable but not sure if that will hold true in 6-8 months....

Also, not too clear what happens to prices as we get close to the end of the year .....992 is supposedly hitting the road early next year, which probably won't be great for your 6 month time horizon...but i am sure someone will correct me..

Yeah I was more inclined towards the 991 just due to the fact of its price not dropping for a while but you're right I never took into consideration the 992 coming soon.. the prices I guess most likely will go down for older models...
