Recently I got myself a cheap old S500 lwb, everything works! (Hope I haven’t jinxed it)

What will I ever replace it with now I’ve got a taste for the finer things In life?

A guy I work with also has a 2002 S-class but the S600 V12, had it from new, full merc history and kept the warranty going until present.
It got me thinking, is there something in buying something like this new and keeping it all this time? With the warranty he can’t really go wrong and it’s still a fantastic car, a new one is far more advanced but that’s life.
Obviously you have to write off the value of the whole thing and if he goes to get a new one, it’s £100k or so, trade in isn’t worth thinking about.

Under this idea, do you lay your £100k on a new S-class? Keep it for another 15 years, merc service and warranty all the way.

Whilst your in the market, I’ve been thinking about a 3 or 4 year old approved used Mulsanne Speed whilst I’m at it. Not far off in price to a new S, a hell of a car. Use it every day like the merc?
Presumably it would hold its value better than an S, maintenance and warranty a lot more though.

Another one in the mix, £100k, used 2008 Rolls-Royce Phantom. There’s one on the rolls site approved used, full rrsh, comes with 2 years warranty and servicing. Keep the warranty going and probably a service package, who knows the cost. Would this hold its value better over time? In 15 years time I would think it would be worth a lot more than the S-class.

That’s my 3 of choice, obviously either way it’s going to be expensive. They aren’t direct competitors but are similar. An A8 maybe, or a 7 but I’m not too keen.

I was in a Bentley dealer and they said a customer had a Turbo R on 450000 miles, had it from new and was still in top condition. Customer still loved the car and never thought about changing it. However the dealer said the customer had spent about 5 times the purchase price in maintenance....

Maybe I’m just trying to justify spending big on one of these motors, telling myself it’s a good idea.
I just get bored of swapping to something a bit newer and having to work out when’s the right time to sell and what’s worth getting every few years.
What do you recon?
