Hi

Going to look at a 2009 Z4 30i shortly. It seems a good price, however I've checked the MOT history and there's a couple of advisories so wondering how much it might be to sort and use this to haggle?

N/S front shock light misting of oil
Front brakes fluctuating but not excessively
O/S worn brake disk but not excessively

Happy to change the brakes myself and potentially the shock - any ideas about how much parts might run to for this lot?

Thanks

I do wonder how some people on here can manage to get up in the morning and find matching socks to wearlaugh

Walked right into that one. I guess my question should have been how bothered should I have been about the shock absorber.

Cheers though! rolleyes

I wouldn't worry about the shock absorber, brakes on the Z4 always corrode and end up with a a large patch of rust on the front face usually around the outside.

My car has had 'light misting of oil on the shock aboserber' for at least the last 4 years, across various different corners.

Cant say its ever been an issue.

Thanks for the replies....also going to look at a Mk1. Different kettle of fish but wondering if it's more my cup of tea at the moment. Both 3L.

Anyone had experience with both? We looked at a loaded 30i today but because it was an auto I passed on it. Thinking weekend car = manual. I've got a 9-3 Aero for the commute and emptying the garage etc. After considering Mx5s, then even a Boxster and going to a Chimaera (no garage though), I can't see many more options than a Z4 for fast weekend fun on a relatively modest budget < £13K!

There are Z3Ms around in budget. Also some horrendous speculative pricing, don't let the £25k price tags on some of them put you off, most of them have been on sale for ages.

Too late I'm afraid, found a nice 2009 E89 30i in budget so decided to go for that. Have to keep the Mrs happy too, think she'd find the M a bit much.... smile

My E36 had several advisories over its 19 years, never major issues. Rust and the wish to change made me sell.
None of the above are real issues, and can be dealt with in due time by ‘bolt-on’ parts.

Yep well everything seemed in order - I collect it on Thursday night, sure I'll be posting on Friday! Got the colour combo I was after too. Dark blue with ivory (?) interior. Manual. It's on 19s with run flats at the front (I know) so will probably replace them when it gets more use in the spring.

Congratulations - they are lovely.

Be very careful if it has not got runcraps all round - it can make for some very peculiar handling/roadholding characteristics...and your insurer won't be impressed either. Bin the runcraps and get some proper tyres for optimum enjoyment!

Sounds great OP - I'm guessing, but it sounds like yours may be Deep Sea Blue Metallic which is a great colour! (Mind you I might be biased ad I have an E86 in Montego Blue with Pearl Grey interior). laugh

But both have the 3.0 litre N52 engine which is a terrific engine - enjoy! driving

Roll on Thursday!

Well it's currently got quite new winter tyres on the back (I'm getting the ones he swapped too, part worn so will look at the tread). My idea is to put these back on if possible until later in the year unless that's not worth doing? I've never had winter tyres, let alone in summer so really not sure.

Just had a look at prices for the fronts and didn't wince half as much as I thought I would. Obviously won't be putting ditchfinders on. Can anyone recommend decent fronts (225 35 19 according to Black Circles) that would be suitable for everyday conditions? I'm not tracking it and will be, ahem, keeping to the speed limit at all times of course.....smile

I think he's left the winter's on as he doesn't do many miles so didn't bother changing them.

Currently looking at Yokohama V105s or Vredestein Ultrac Vortis. Any other recommendations around that price (~£270 a pair) for the fronts?
