Qashqai 1.5DCI Cambelt?
Discussion
I'm in the process of buying a Qashqai 1.5DCI (November 2014 plate) from a local garage. It's got 69,000 miles on the clock so asked the garage (via phone) to check the service history to see if the cambelt has been replaced. The salesman said that he's checked and that a MOT from 10 months ago shows that the 'timing CHAIN' had been checked and is showing that all is fine. I said that afaik this model doesn't have a chain - he replied that this car does according to it's history. Any ideas/opinions?
They have a belt and a belt or chain is not checked at MOT, so haven't a clue where the sales guy is getting his info from, unless he's just bulls
tting (most likely and this is coming from a car salesman!)
I personally would be a bit apprehensive about purchasing a car from a place that outright lies, if you did go ahead I would scrutinise the service history and also insist on a belt change as part of the deal as it'll need doing at 72k, or price it up and get the amount as a discount and get it done elsewhere for peace of mind.

The 1.5 has a belt, 60Kmiles or 5 years.
The 1.6 and 2.0 have chains
I think they are 6 years or 72k, they are on Renaults at that age. The 1.6 and 2.0 have chains

Thanks all - you've confirmed what I thought. Don't know what the sales guy is on about? Due to the mileage I was going to ask for the cambelt (and the water pump?) to be replaced as part of the purchase deal. The 'boss' is back in on Wednesday so will have to hash it out then. Doesn't instill much confidence when I'm being told bulls$£t!
That is a K9K engine as fitted to multiple vehicles across both Renault and Nissan ranges.
Clio, Megane, Micra, Note etc and is also fitted to my NV200.
Belt change on the NV200 is 5 yrs or 90K IIRC. Had mine done on it`s 5th annual service at 80 odd K miles.
Don't just change the belt, do the belt, tensioner, water pump, coolant and the aux belt all together, probably a £600 job at a dealer.

Have just called the garage again. Sales assistant has called the manager who has confirmed that this car has a chain!!!!! Manager is to call me directly when he returns to work on Wednesday morning so am looking forward to his explanation.
Have seen an identical model at another garage that highlights the 'Approved Nissan Scheme' (12 month warranty etc etc). Are there costs for this? Can't find any info on the garage website.
