Hello looking for some advice on this

I recently swapped my pcp golf gti for an audi S3 through my main dealer at VW (they had a 17 plate that had been traded in)

as this is my second ever pcp car I questioned him on the monthly payment, as I would be taking a new car part way through a bill cycle what would my monthly payment be in August, I normally pay on the 28th and I got the new car on the 16th, he said it's fine you won't pay anything for 6 weeks and on the 28th of September you just pay the new car amount.

Low and behold payment has been taken by VW for my old amount on my old car, now I work in sales and thought him saying this sounded too good to be true, however I specifically asked him this 2 or 3 times and he definitely said nothing to be paid for 6 weeks.

There isn't an issue of money but I have delt with this dealer a while and this specific sales man who I did like, he sold me my golf but there is no escaping I have been miss informed and worse possibly lied too here.

what would you do ? what can I do realisticly ? the conversation isn't recorded

For any one thinking I have just been a bit stupid and miss understood him, after he said this I then took their gap insurance (I know cheaper else where) an he said not paying for a car payment this month will cover your gap insurance you will pay.

so there is no way what's been said could have been miss understood

Very little you can do if the dealer won’t cooperate, I presume you’ve already tried speaking to him before posting on here and he’s denied the conversation?

If you haven’t yet, I don’t think he’s lied to you, rather he’s just misinformed and didn’t 100% understand the process of how the payments would work. Not that this matters, on paper you’re entitled to some recourse, but without asking him to provide what he has said in writing then it’s your word against his.

Phone him and ask him if there is anything he can do because he has told you one thing but the opposite has happened.

Do it sooner rather than later, the longer you leave it the more likely it is for him to “forget” the conversation you both had.

What did he say we you called him to point out the payment has gone out, that you weren't expecting to go out?

The account will all balance out in the end, with the payment being correctly credited to your account.

Isn't that the important thing?

Have you spoken to the salesman as he may have been telling the truth and this may be due to an error on the part of VWFS?

Call and ask for an explanation. He may have made an honest mistake but you won't know till you ask.

if I miss inform a customer or incorrectly advise a customer it has a huge repercussion on myself in my job, I'm hoping it's an error with VW finance as I have lost all trust with the dealer otherwise

This

OP - I was going to say something on similar lines. get them to show you the balance on the old PCP and how they factored any equity or debt into the next car and how they factored this last payment. You may well find that it was all fair. In which case whilst it is annoying to be told you didn't have to pay an extra payment it does mean you've not lost out, you're simply paying what is due. On the other hand if the numbers don't check out (ie they didn't factor this extra payment when doing the deal) then you now have them in a position where it is no longer your word v the salesperson and so should be easier to get the credit.

Sounds like a slight misunderstanding, may have been on both sides. Could also be that the payment dates were so close that the finance teams didn’t process something in time.

When I had got rid of my i30 on 4th March last year the payment came out on 19th March still. I rang the finance company and they explained that they'd applied for the direct debit on the 1st to come out on the 19th, so the payment still came out. No problems, I phoned up and they explained that it was already noted the account was over and the payment would be refunded. They refunded me the payment within 7 days and the new payment on my Fabia came out on the 4th of April.

They should refund you once they realise that the account is over, I was a bit shocked when the payment on the i30 came out but like I say one phonecall and it was fine - since then (the i30 was my first car on finance) I would always presume this would happen when changing cars.

May just be that the old direct debit wasn't cancelled in time. had the same thing recently when I changed mortgage providers. Left me a bit short for a month but they credited it back to me after a couple of weeks.

If it isnt causing you financial difficulties I dont see the issue, yes a bit annoying, but on the plus side you are a further payment into the new PCP.
Let it go and worry about something more important :-)

I can only imagine it's actually left you skint for the month as you spent the money elsewhere, otherwise I can't understand why you would care so much. You'll pay the same amount overall, just enjoy the new car. smile

Sounds like an error on VWs part. Ring VW finance and ask whats happening.

You shouldnt have been charged, but not really the salesmans fault i'd have thought?

How is it specifically the salesmans fault if VW Finance took an extra payment on his old car?

I've had it happen when the settlement by the dealer doesnt get through before the request for payment is sent by the finance company to my account.

Flag it with VW and they will refund in due course.

And thats the only possibility then is it?

Personally, if someone takes money out of my account that i wasnt expecting then i will get quite irritated by it - it being my money. Nothing to do with not being able to "afford" it.
