I'm helping my stepdaughter buy a new Skoda, using PCP, as £1500 contribution from the manufacturer.

I've got a very good quote from a dealer, but the salesman wants me to pay a £500 deposit before supplying me the order form/PCP contract to look at, to check right car details/options/colour/PCP T&C's.

He says he'll supply it all once I pay the deposit. I queried this with him and he said via email he would try to sort if any issues, but there was no written promise of deposit return?

Surely the Consumer Contract regulations 2014 apply(old DSR pre 2014) as I'm buying over the internet, and my deposit is safe and refundable within 7 days if I get the paperwork and something is wrong or onerous?

Any advice would be appreciated, as we're keen to buy.

Pay the deposit then. Use a credit card. I wouldn't expect any problems.

What are they telling you about delivery time?

I guess it's different face-to-face but I helped my daughter order a SEAT Ateca a couple of weeks ago and she hasn't paid a deposit al all.

I wanted to look at Karoq as the Skoda dealer is handy and has a good reputation, but I'd also heard delivery is all over the place so I wondered what you'd been told.

The Ateca we ordered was already built and in transit - dealer has lent daughter an Arona until it arrives. It's the 3cyl 1 litre turbo petrol though - it gets good write ups, but I'd rather have had the 1.4.

The PCP contract won't be generated without an order form, which won't be generated without an intention to buy - usually your £500 deposit

He won't give you a PCP quote because he doesn't want you taking it elsewhere and losing his deal

What do you think he's going to do that you're so worried about?

The dealer supplied the order form & PCP breakdown yesterday, so I've now paid a deposit, so all sorted now.

That's better, well done.

And yes, can we ever take anything a dealer says to us as gospel?

Me thinks not.

Enjoy the Karoq, we ended up getting a 17 plate Yeti.

Thanks Trevor

I wouldn't trust one as far as I can throw one! They're all over you like a rash if they think you'll be placing an order, post delivery never hear from them again. I'm not bitter and twisted! TBF, MINI used to ring my wife every 6 months or so to check if the car was ok, but that stopped. Enjoy the Yeti. Unusual looks on the original but a good car, I understand.

We bought ours via car wow. I wonder if the lead times have tumbled because VW Group were in a right state I understand re the new WLTP fuel consumption/emission regulations that new cars from 1 september have to be approved to, and they've sorted it.
