Cheap daily

My dads on the look out for a cheap daily, doesn't want to spend much money, ~£1500. Thing is he does 84miles a day, 6 days a week. The Astra MK5 1.6 he has currently is due its death as its burning a bit of oil on 160k miles. I've suggested a Fabia VRS as they have the 1.9PD engine and they're known for doing moon mileage, but he's not so keen on a fabia. Any other suggestions?

If its not the fabia he is a fan of he could one of the family members with the same engine..

Audi - a3,a4,a6 - Seat Leon, Ibiza, Toledo - VW - Golf, Passat, Polo

i own 2 golfs and one A4 all with the PD engine..

all of those engines are over 200k and going strong..

C270 Mercedes this 5pot will see mega miles with ease make sure the gearbox fluid is changed & your dad will be a happy man. The 220's are just as reliable but why not have a 270, also the auto box will be a nice bonus.

Spoke to him again, he wants a R53 Cooper S. But I've looked and in his budget is the lower end of the market, ragged and abused ones on 130k+ miles, plus they drink fuel like no tomorrow. We'll see how long it takes for the words "I told you so" to come out my mouth
