Focus ST Tdci Estate or Octavia VRS Diesel Estate

Just as the title suggests I'm afraid.

I'm over 40 and have 3 kids, although 2 mostly out in their own cars. Like our breaks/holidays so need some space.

Fuel economy is important to us but also like the sporty looks and feel.

I currently drive a 2010 BMW 320d saloon and the boot is tiny.

Which would you be looking at OR is there something I'm missing out on.

I have £12-14k to spend

Thoughts & Suggestions appreciated?

100% the vRS for me, though admittedly I have not driven the Ford.

I have a VRS estate diesel as a company car, I wasn't expecting too much from it as I had been running mainly Golf GTDs previously but have been won over by it.

It handles well enough to be entertaining, rides very well even though it has the bigger wheels, rear seat and boot space is very good and of course it delivers the fuel economy you expect from the VAG engine.

Ford interiors always put me off looking at their cars so I don't think I would consider the ST personally.

As above, I have a 2017 Vrs diesel estate for my work car.

My thoughts:

Massive Boot
Makes swift progress when needed
The factory tyres do make a lot of road noise
Comfy and supportive seats
In eco mode, on a run, i have seen 60mpg+

Big fan, as a comparison, I have a 2014 320d xdrive that i acquired, fully loaded, msport blah blah blah. I would chose the VRS every time.

I'd say go for the Mondeo it's a better steer than the Skoda which is still a good car but the Ford edges it.

At the lower end of your budget you can land a last of the line Titanium X Sport which are very good & loaded with kit:

I looked at both in hatchback form before going for the Octavia. One of the things that did it was the interior, and the Focus just felt like it was trying a bit too hard, a bit boy racer in comparison. My Octavia has been great, will be sad to see it go next month.

I am a fan of the new shape Mondeo too. Good shout. Nice with all the extras.
The hatchbacks are massive too!!

dont rule out the toyota avensis estate auto; have just purchased one and am very impressed how dang big the thing is inside. they have no known issues to contend with bar the electronic handbrake which affects a small number of them.

I'm in a similar position with a lease ending on a VRS hatch and I'm strongly considering another VRS or the Mazda 6 Sport based almost entirely on number of toys and particularly the seats (electric, memory etc.)
