Hi folks, I posted here a couple of months back seeking hints regarding a small to medium petrol automatic SUV to get my overweight self behind the wheel (and back out again). Various helpful suggestions were made including a Skoda Yeti, and mindful of the brand's enhanced reputation I visited my local main dealer and was delighted with it as it ticked all my boxes. But although the salesman was very helpful, I felt that my budget was too much "bargain basement" for them.
On-line searches (at that time not Auto Trader) showed little in my locality, so I moved on to another model suggested here; the Honda CR-V. I eased my frame in and out with ease at a dealer and this then became my car to go for.
All the while I had been visiting local used dealers, but without seeing much to inspire me. That is, until I saw the car which I took delivery of a few days later. I didn't recognise it at all and had to be told it was a Daihatsu Terios. Strangely, it wasn't a make/model that had been suggested here.
People, you may think me weird, but its eccentric charms made me fall for it almost on sight. I still can't decide whether it reminds me of a WW2 German army staff officer's car or the one that Noddy uses in Toytown! The bonus was that it was well within my budget.
Before buying, I consulted PistonHeads again about the wisdom of buying a car that was no longer made and had no British dealer network, particularly for spares - but my doubts were promptly allayed due to the brand's reliability.
And now, after four weeks I am absolutely THRILLED TO BITS with it! Can't have everything of course, but its only fault is that its silver - like the Astra I had for eight years!!
The weird thing is that via the power of Cookies I'm still getting adverts for Honda CR-Vs, particularly a same age model from a local dealer, at almost the same money. This is more luxurious, has more bells and whistles but has 30,000 more miles on the clock and would have probably been just a bit too big for my wife, both in its physical size and its 2 litre engine (as opposed to the 1.5 litre Terios). BTW my wife is a lady who I describe as requiring a motorised roller-skate.
Still, I can't help admiring the CR-V, but the feeling will pass.

Congratulations on the new wheels! and thanks for updating us, all to often new users disappear once they have the info they were looking for (or not perhaps)

I like the Terios and didn't know they did a 2litre option. They strike me as a 5 door Jimny in terms of size.

Congratulations and enjoy
