Evening gassers!

I'm looking to change my 2007 Mk3 Mondeo Ghia X TDCI soon for a Mk4 Titanium X Sport.

I know the diesels come in 2 engine variants - 2.0 and 2.2. Which one would people recommend the most out of these two?

I don't have a huge commute but I do travel over to Wales a fair bit to feed my mountain biking habit and will therefore be going for an estate to lob bikes in easier. Anyone know the pros and cons of each of the engines?

Also, what other bits and bobs should I look out for when viewing one?

Cheers

The Titanium X Sports come loaded with pretty much everything on it a sunroof is a nice touch but rare as is DAB but overall you'll want for nothing, the 2.2 is a little more juicy but the extra power & torque will be handy on longer journeys also the estates are normally all 2.2d's.

Those 3 Mondeos are quite overpriced.

I had a 2.0 TitX, all the toys I needed as standard. Economy not great as averaged 40 over a variety of driving and to be honest stopped me buying a newer model. Other than that it was superb!

They're not overpriced try finding the same spec TXS estates cheaper with the same mileage & specs then show the OP.

Agreed. Some of them are actually very fairly priced.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the 2.0 seem to run a bit smoother and quieter compared to the 2.2. And also that the 2.2 actually struggles to return figures higher than 40mpg on a daily drive - but I'm not sure I believe that part.

The 2.2d's will see high 48's on a run (we had two as a pool cars for 5 years in total) on a commute into Central London it would drop to 33mpg (my CLK63 would see 13mpg on the same journey) the 2.0d feels a bit brisker initially but they lack a bit on longer journeys.

Because of those pool cars I went & bought a Vignale model & haven't been disappointed, a good alternative to the Mondeo is the 508SW they use the same drivetrain & in GT form come loaded with spec but they're harder to find than the Mondeo.

I've got a 2.2 hatchback and have covered 40k ish over the last few years.

I know I'll curse it now but it's been great. Very reliable. Mpg usually hovers around 39 though. If mpg is a concern get a 2.0 which is supposed to be much better economy for not much less power.

Next time I would avoid a sport though. It handles nice (for a Mondeo) but it is hard and rattles the spine a bit. It may be a bit harsh depending on what you are used to.

Picked up a shed a few months ago, although a very nice shed indeed - a 2.0 titanium x estate (not sport). Feels very solid, and is lovely to drive and gets 45-50mpg mixed. Bought on condition (obvs) at 257k and now on 262k!! Had to have a new alternator in my ownership and a repair to the door loom but so far its been fantastic!
