Luxury Car 15k
Discussion
Not that i have a need for one but i would like something big, comfy and loaded with features to waft along in.
I like the 2010+ Jaguar XJ something like that, would want it be a diesel sorry i know just dont want to be running something doing 20mpg
Budget upto 15k, what else have i missed? Looked at the Merc CL thread earlier i like those but not the engines

Going for a diesel makes sense if you're doing around 12k a year below that & the overall numbers get closer, so take a look at your expected annual mileage.

The Audi A8 would be my pick with the 4.2tdi V8:

2012-on Lexus gs450h
A higher quality product than pretty much most things. Loads of kit, plenty of power (sub 6 secs 0-60) and will do 35-40mpg. Plus it will only ever need basic servicing and tyres, plus it will never get stolen, and it’s not diesel. Winner.
How does it compare to the previous gen GS450h?A higher quality product than pretty much most things. Loads of kit, plenty of power (sub 6 secs 0-60) and will do 35-40mpg. Plus it will only ever need basic servicing and tyres, plus it will never get stolen, and it’s not diesel. Winner.
I had one of those and when it had problems, regular garages couldn't fix it... lexus main dealer for everything and it was more expensive than BMW in that respect

Because the XJ is a better steer, I've not driven in a 450h that has seen 40mpg at motorway speeds & overall the Jag is a nicer place to be, I'd happily have a diesel over the 450h.
and the XJ:"Fuel consumption not even close to manufacturer's guidelines (a long motorway run returns 35mpg)"
Sitting at around 80mph I've seen between 40-45mpg regularly with the Jags, on the 450h's it's been 34-37mpg (which is still good for a big heavy car) at best which is way off of it's advertised (as is every car due to the old lab test) MPG.
I'm only 4 mpg off of the 450H with my E500.

Hear me out here.... 3 series GT.
Plenty available and a huge huge huge amount of room inside, especially in the back.
Built on a stretched 3 series that they sell in China I believe and i'm sure a review I read said nothing short of an S class limo has the same rear leg room.
I looked at one and even with the drivers seat where I would have it (at 5'11) my wife had a huge amount of room to stretch her legs out.
Many will have the 5 year BMW warranty too, so you'd easily find one with that for a little more peace of mind.

Go for a 5.0 portfolio XJ then!

I do like the XJ very much too. Just big jag and diesel just doesn't seem right to me somehow. Plus I can imagine a 15k XJ diesel would be considerably more likely to throw you a chunky bill or 2 over the next few years. but if you don't fancy a Lexus then you don't fancy one so that's the end of that idea.

i get what your saying but petrol ones are rare to come by and for just fairly normal driving and European road trip in comfort at a reasonable cost i dont think you can beat a twin turbo v6 diesel Go for a 5.0 portfolio XJ then!
i also like the BMW 640D but seems a big car like the Jag but not much room in it
