Hi All

Looking at buying a new car and used Carwow. Now there site states the following

What’s included in new car offers?
•12 months road tax
•Registration fee
•VAT
•All on-the-road

That's fine and I engage with dealer who sends order form but I notice the discount on the order form is based on only car purchase price, options and delivery charge. I have discussed with dealer that to me the 'on the road' price is for driving off the forecourt and cant do that unless VAT is paid and RFL purchased so they should be included before the discount is worked out.

The reply I have had says the road tax and reg fee are government DVLA charges and can’t be discounted.

Just cautious so wondering what others think ?

We have only tried to purchased one car using car wow. Wasn't a great experience tbh.

But normally you start with the OTR price and then get it down to a price you're happy with.

This normally includes first reg and so on. As yes they can't be discounted as such but they are normally taken in to consideration on the discounted price.

Maybe try contacting CarWow directly for an explanation and copy in the dealer's reply and then they can argue between them who's right?

Just to clarify, are you saying the figures given to you on the Carwow website are different to the order form?

As per dealer's response, RFL and FRF are a fixed amount so why would they include the discount on these?

What's the issue?

You requested a CarWow price, they sent you one, you agreed to buy at that price?

You're getting 12 months tax, reg fee, VAT included in the price you were happy to pay

How do you believe they're pulling the wool?

The issue is they stated the discount is 5.1%. Carwow state that everything is included in the price you get offered, but when the order form turns up its not 5.1% of the 'on the road price' which includes VAT and RFL licence which means the discount is effectively less, hence pulling wool over our eyes

Purchased my last car via carwow and the experience was excellent. Got the best price without haggling, and my chosen dealer, who weren't local, couldn't have been more helpful.

Op, you are being overly 'cautious', the way discount works on Carwow is perfectly normal. Carwow charge dealers a fixed fee to arrange deals with them so there is absolutely no benefit to them in trying any 'smoke and mirrors' tactics.

Huh?

You got a quote of £XXXXX OTR which includes 5.1% discount, your order form is for the same amount (?) but the 5.1% is off the base price? That’s completely normal and correct.

That's what's threw me the order form is different. Dealer just phoned and confirmed a slight error was made when putting form together, it was also complicated by me changing options. Happy now and gone ahead thanks for input everyone

It doesn't matter whether you calculate the discount including VAT or not. Adding 20% to a car that's been discounted by 5.1% adds up to the same number as adding 20% VAT and then taking away 5.1% in discount.

The only difference therefore is the RFL, which is most likely £140 depending on which car you buy anyway. The time you spent to complain about this is probably more likely then the 5.1% of £140 you missed out on on a £10K, £20K? purchase.

RFL is £830 and VAT £7,600 hence why I was querying.

As has been said, you cannot discount government fees.

The RFL is the only component not included in the discount, so at 5.1%, we are only talking about £42.
