Fake service stamp. Should I do anything about it?
Discussion
Hello,
I bought a Honda Civic 1.8 MK8 a few weeks ago. It has been running perfectly, however, A/C needs vacuum check and regas.
The car came with FSH and I was checking it last night and everything checks out with the MOT etc. All looks good until 2016 when the car is sold and the new owner has it for two years. There is only one stamp for 2018 and a gap for 2017. I checked the mileage on the 2018 one and it turns out that it is impossible the mileage is correct as the MOT done a few months ago has the car with 300 miles over the one stated in the stamp. Whoever faked the stamp did a sloppy job. Further on I discovered that there were no garages on the street that is on the stamp so it's a fake stamp.
This doesn't particularly worry me as I, per PH advice, bought the car on condition, not miles/service history and everything is fine. This was from a small dealer and I am wondering what should I do?
I want to keep the car and most of the advice online is about how you can reject a car and how to take legal action etc. so I am not sure what to do if anything?
The only other dealer issue is that he told me I will get two keys but he didn't find the second one and has not paid for a new one yet. The car was a very good deal so I am not sure if I should keep chasing him for the key.
Thanks.

That's your first mistake. What did the dealer say when you spoke to them about it?
I haven’t told him yet.

I had this quite a few years ago with a small dealer/trader in the south west. He promised he'd ordered a new key, and it was for a car where keys aren't coded, but are ordered in sequence from Germany. I eventually gave up (amongst other issues) and refreshing found that, upon enquiring myself, a new spare was less than £40 from the main dealer, ordered in.When it arrived, it was sequence #3, which meant that no one had ordered a replacement spare before.
You can keep chasing him for a key, but the odds are you'll never get one. Sounds like you bought from a bit of a dodgy dealer, not quite a MotorHub, but more of a back street trader kind of place. If the car is up to your standard condition wise, which it sounds like it is, then I'd just go get a new key made (if it's worth the trouble to you) and accept that it has a discrepancy in the service book. I nearly bought a low mileage 745i with FSH on Irish plates a few weeks ago, all checked out, MOT history was only 4 years strong, I assumed due to it coming fro Ireland. Turns out it was sent to Ireland on 192k, clocked and given a fake service history, then sent back here with 52k and a new reg.

I have already found a replacement key for £6 with cutting it ads up to £10. Programming seems very easy. For £10 I will give it a go, however, I will keep chasing the dealer for the original. When it arrived, it was sequence #3, which meant that no one had ordered a replacement spare before.

Did you do an HPI check before you bought it?
A guy here did one and he told me it's all clear. Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
