Come into some money and want to replace the S4 as the weekend car.
Needs:
  • 4 seats
Wants:
  • sub 50k miles
  • Cabrio (kids seem to love it)
I've been tempted by a Maserati Granturismo at £20k - is that madness?

Go with the GranTurismo is you can. It will be an event every time you get in it.

The excitement of will the EML come on or not. Picnics at the side of the road. And then the kiddies get to enjoy the experience of being driven home in a AA van.

Agreed. I've seen a couple of Ghibli's in the low £20's and one GT for £20k (was £25k not that long ago so I think he needs a quick sale - Linky).
Would defo have to give up the drop top for a Mas for sure.

laugh Yeah, I get the same "excitement" with the S4 currently (will the timing chains break, wont they...) Its just the potential bills are far higher in the GT!!

Or do I suck up and stick to the S4 I have and put some money down on a rental property #sensibleoption

The Maserati Granturismo is on my list for a 4 seat coupe in the in the 20-25k bracket for my next car. I love how it looks, sounds and i honestly am not fussed about reliability. A car like that isn't about the "sensible" bits - i think its a labour of love not of the mind. And for me heart always wins over head when it comes to cars.

This one isn't a million miles away from your budget.

That said, if a 4 seat sports car is in your mindset (like it is in mine) i've also been looking at these - not massive amounts in the back but enough for a odd trip needed.

as have these - the RS5

I don't think its as special as the Maserati or the Porsche. But certainly a lovely sounding and looking 4 seat coupe and very capable.

I've started looking at the Mercedes CL as well in the 55 or 63 amg guise i think its a very understated but lovely car - and definitely has that sense of occassion in terms of how you feel getting into them.

An outsider maybe a TVR - not what you'd call reliable though

For me though it always comes back to the Maserati. It's just beautiful.

That is a very good point; I hadn't thought of the CL; I'm not a massive Merc fanboy but that engine...

TVR Tuscan/Cerbera has been on my all time wish list - but even compared to a Maserati its just financial suicide!

I'd say the Maserati Granturismo but check to see if the Cam Variator fix has been carried out (even if done by a specialist Maserati will have a record of which cars have been done) if not be aware this could be an issue later on down the line.

At this price point I'd be tempted to go for a Gransport but the prices for these have really firmed up so they may now be to much of a stretch.
