New Car - What to buy?!
Discussion
So I want to buy a new car, I don't really need another car but I feel as tough today I don't have all "bases" covered.
Budget 8-15k
Petrol (if convertible)
Auto or manual
Would like something that could be used daily, but will be reliable / comfy for long trips (OK maybe a defender isn't comfy).
I currently have a mini cooper S, LR Freelander, AM V8V
So I have narrowed it down to two potential scopes;
Offroad;
defender 110 / 90
jeep wrangler
or
4 seater convertible (so the dogs can come with us);
CLK
6 series
3 series (E9x)
SAAB 2.8 V6 t/t

I'm bias but I'd go down the Mercedes route:
CLK55 AMG (these are firming up price wise so depreciation wise it would be a good car to but)

Being a 2005 car this has a host of updates that are exclusive which makes these sought after:
CLK63 Brakes
Heated & Air Cooled seats (once you've had these they make perfect sense)
Digital Climate
Another rare car is the CLK500 with the 5.5 (which was more powerful than 55 above) these aren't as sought after but this means you don't pay as much.

If you fancy something newer the the E class is a good shout:
E350 Sport (AirScarf seats are fantastic)

E500 Sport Edition

4x4
G Wagon

A very good leftfield option is the Mercedes CL500 all the windows drop away & with the sunroof opened up you'll feel like you're in a convertible.

I was hoping you would post
The only thing I would say is that the car will probably do sub 8k p/a so I want to avoid a diesel if it is not a 4x4, also a convertible diesel is just wrong, I was looking for an E class cab or convertible but 90% are diesel.
Will have a look at the CLK 55 and I love the CL, any known issues? Bar of course heavy on suspension consumables.

All the E Class convertibles I listed are petrols.
The CL's are very reliable the suspension is the improved system so far less troublesome, window regulators aren't cheap & can go wrong but tbh they're very robust & benefit from regular use, my dad & uncle are on their second 63/500 respectively & neither has had a bill for anything but servicing.
