£1500 to spend on estate
Discussion
Hi,
I have £1500 to spend and looking at possibly getting a BMW 3 series estate (E46), a Jaguar X type estate or Volvo XC70, but just wondering what else I should look at?
Possible a SAAB estate too?
I only need the car for about 8 months before I move abroad, and will do around 15-18k miles in that time.
I work in sailing and water sports so need the space (hence estate) or should I also be looking at SUV or MPV as well?
Thanks

How about a Citroen C5?
2.0hdi engine is bullet proof and economical.
Incredibly comfortable and loads of loadspace in the estate. And it will have done all of it's depreciation at your purchase price. So you'll likely get most if not all of your money back.
Or a Volvo V70 estate?
Or a Renault Laguna estate?

With that budget it's best not to be picky about brand. I'd suggest looking at ANYTHING that's big enough for your needs and in budget, buy privately (not from a trader) and pay attention to the condition of the vehicle and the way the car has been looked after by its previous owners. A well looked after citroen will serve you better than a neglected BMW.
That said, if it were me, I'd be looking for a big old Volvo or a circa-2000 Passat with the 1.9 TDI.

Yep, keep an open mind. Some in the shed thread buy SUV people carrier tho ha and take the rear seats out, but these 407s look ideal. I wonder if they did them in beige...they’d be even cheaper!
I had four 407SW as taxis.
The trim inside is not great, bits will break off. The LED display will lose pixels. The aircon is not going to work and the rear wiper will cease up. Bottom front ball joints will go on the wishbones, whole bottom wishbone replacement.
The seats are comfortable and the engine is good for 300k, but they have less boot space than the (same car) Citroen C5
