Any views on these? Going to look at a local one today, though he wants to much imo...but that can be negotiated

No DPF is good, done 109k but only part service history

These are not a hugely popular car, and I know people rave about the 1.6 diesel, but this is the 2.2 diesels

Any views welcome

No experience with that engine, but a very useful load area. Nice to be in for the size of car. Sister in laws car survived without problems for four years in her care, until someone T boned her running a red, walking away unscathed so the crash protection was OK.

When I was looking at them there was some chatter about clutch and DMF failure on >100k mile 2.2d cars, but then for a 12 year old c.£1k car it is all down to that individual car.

Hi, that civic will require a clutch and dmf before 120k miles so factor that into any purchase price.

Take it for a long 20min plus test drive and I guarantee it'll slip the clutch accelerating in 6th gear.

I'd imagine seller is putting it up for sale before clutch slipping becomes apparent in 1st to 4th gear..

Trust me I've put three clutches into 3 2.2cdti accords.

They're good cars & quite popular but their clutches are a bit of a weak point, as others have said expect to be replacing the clutch soon.

For me I'd also expect to have to replace some worn suspension components.

Just to add, check for leaking exhaust manifold - common fault. If you can smell exhaust in the cabin, it’s likely cracked. Just make sure the cabin air recirculation button is set to bring in outside air.

Injectiors can leak sometimes to - clicking type sounds.

They do have good space inside, very functional. Ride can be a bit crashy.

Averaging 48-52 mpg

Have a peep on here; Check the Wiki for common faults too.
As others have said:
- Clutch (Any slipping)
- Exhaust Manifold issues with cracking
Then
- Roof Rust - Check under the sill between roof front & windscreen.

For the most part, The 2.2 Is very reliable, and is reported to tug nicely. I wouldn't be too afraid of a 100K Mile example, depending on the car itself - If maintained well it will continue trucking for a long while yet.
