I've pretty much decided to go for another V8 RS4 Audi Quattro Avant. Having said that, as part of my policy of constant improvement, why should I not go for an RS6 V8 ?
And if I do that, then why not a C63 AMG Estate ?
I know that the C63 ain't 4WD, but we've got the Disco for that.
Any helpful suggestions would be welcome.
Incidentally, is there any reason to assume that the second hand car market is very quiet at the moment ? I've been astonished at the px prices I've been offered on our existing Audi.
Mind you, yesterday the local M-B dealer said that our Audi doesn't show its age, and then went on to make a good offer against a three year old AMG C63 Estate.

What is the budget and what are you looking for?

Me personally would look at the MB estates with the 6.2 V8. smile

Has to be the C63 AMG, for me it's the better car.

£35 k plus the Audi px of about ten grand.

I’m looking for a very fast estate. 4WD would be an advantage, but not critically so.

Re MB. I am confused by the complex nomenclatures that MB use to describe their cars.
I went to a MB main dealer yesterday and asked for clarification . Maybe it’s a female thing but I came away even more confused. I know what AMG C63’s are ( they are the 6.2 litre V8’s right ?.....very cool cars ! ), but are there not some big Mercs with equally powerful performance ?

Yes, I have considered an RS6, but do I need another really powerful car ?
I've already got a DB9, a Bentley Continental GTC and an Alfa Romeo Quatrofoglio, so they cover the bases for me.

Mind you, I could be persuaded. Have you got any more to say on the subject ?

the latest C63s have a 4.0 V8 biturbo. (W205)
The ones before that (W204) had the 6.2 V8.

You can never have enough powerful cars, not that I have experience
An RS6 with the smallest wheels and the optional magnetic adaptive whatever fancy suspension in comfort mode is extremely comfortable in terms of ride for the type of car

You've forgotten the Bentley Continental GTC, the 1940 Lagonda Rapide V12 DHC, the Alfa Romeo 156 GTA Selespeed Sportwagon, the 1963 Humber Super Snipe Shooting Brake etc, etc, etc.

One can never have enough cars, dogs or single malt whisky !

The Lagonda is still undergoing a partial restoration. The Humber is not on the same planet as any of the rest since it is a big old lumbering estate ( but see below ), the 156 GTA is a hard riding bone shaker. The Continental makes me feel like it is driving me rather than me driving it, so that leaves the DB9 versus the Quatrofoglio. Well, the DB9 is a Volante ( a convertible )
with a sports exhaust, so that feels and sounds like one is riding a volcano eruption, whereas the Quatrofoglio is sheer effortless power with a Banshee howl ( if does, after all, have a Ferrari engine! ) and its twin turbos deliver pretty much full power from the get go. Which one is a keeper ? I'd say the Quatrofoglio ; if only from the rarity point of view.

The Humber has an interesting story. My Dad was chairman of the Rootes Group. They owned Hillman, Singer, Sunbeam and Humber. Back in the early Sixties, the Hertfordshire County Constabulary ordered for their Chief Constable a fully loaded Humber Super Snipe Shooting Brake. To upgrade its performance it had uprated suspension, many aluminium panels, a heavily breathed upon engine and a Shorrocks supercharger. Because of policing funding cutbacks, the H.C.C. eventually then had to cancel the order, so my Dad took the car as his company car. At the time we had a weekend country house in Norfolk. Every Friday night in the shooting season we'd drive from our house in West Hampstead to near Swaffham where our country house was. We'd use the A10 which accessed several American Air Force bases.
Stopping at Brandon for dinner, we'd often be challenged by Americans in their Challengers,
Chargers, GTO's, Firebirds, Roadrunners, Mustangs etc. Never once did the Yanks in their muscle cars manage to out run the Snipe, nor even on the bends. Not bad, eh, for a six seater estate fitted with folding cocktail tables, a lockable gun safe, a cigar humidor and a chill cabinet !

Ok so you haven't answered the question, yes you have lots of possessions, great, I am sure you enjoy them.

What I asked was what is it used for, the Disco does what an estate car will do.

My suggestion would be to buy a super car, your obviously fabulously wealthy and enjoy letting people know, so do it with your car choice as well.

In the spirit of this being a motoring forum, I shall ignore your rudeness, and will answer your question ( which, to me at least, was a tad ambiguous).
First of all, have ever driven a Disco or any of Audis S or RS cars ? If you have you should know that they are chalk and cheese. We use the a Disco for pulling horse boxes and trailers,
driving shooting parties, hunt meetings
and general agricultural related work . We can get seven into it, or all of our dogs. Our Audis ( we have two ) are used for motorway driving and social and business use. Being 4x4 and our living in the back end of nowhere, the Audi's do the job for us in greater comfort than the Disco.

I hope my reply answers your question. If it doesn't and you have more, then please try and be a little bit more civil.
P.S. No we are not "fabulously wealthy", the tax system of this country sees to that. We own a few mortgage free properties as well as some nice cars, none of which are mega expensive super cars. If one buys and sells cars sensibly, it is not too difficult to collect a few nice ones,
or better yet, inherit them from like minded parents.

I genuinely didn't mean to cause offence! You bought up your fleet of cars, and mentioned that I missed the Bentley off of my list, my comments were genuine from your post you are obviously wealthy, absolutely nothing wrong with that and proud of your car collection/fleet, yet again nothing wrong with that! Yes I was a bit 'tongue in cheek' but don't take offence, I am certainly not out to offend strangers on the internet!

Jag XF-RS - within budget and different, never seen an estate on the road!
Volvo Polestar?
Panamera? Low mileage turbo is in budget and 4 wheel drive.
Ferrari FF? Blow the budget, I love them, as do many PHers (some actually own them, I can dream).

I've just re-read her reply to me as well I missed the bit where she says were not wealthy, but do own several properties outright! Amazing!

Thank you for your mollifying reply. I'm glad we've cleared that up now. I suppose that Rs4's and AMG C63's head my shortlist because we know Audi's very well and our neighbour has a V8 C63 that we have driven and liked it a lot. OK the C63 is five inches longer than the RS4 because the RS4 is generally thought of as being a "Compact". This might not seem any big deal, but getting a parking place in our local town on market day is a real pain. As for the Panamera, well, they ain't very pretty are they ? I've never heard of Polestar, but will enquire.
The FF ? Well, in many ways the Bentley does that job i.e. Four wheel drive, 200 MPH,plus seats, albeit notional in the back.

I'll check out the Jag. I've not had a Jaguar for a good few years. Cheers.
