Looking for a car around 8k ideally would like an 328i but out of my budget.

current between a 320d sport with leather and widescreen satnav or 320d m sport with basic nav.

none have xenon or adaptive suspension. Not sure if i should wait for a car with xenon

My commute is 16 miles round trip.

Not sure if a diesel makes sense for 16 miles, I'd be sticking with a petrol imho.

If you are seeking inspiration, the Autotrader website is very good for searching within given parameters. You can search using min/max price, min/max engine size, max mileage etc., leave make and model blank and see what comes up. You may decide to look closer at cars you would not otherwise have thought of

With that annual mileage you'd be mad looking at a diesel, it has to be a petrol,
WHY?

Have you looked at his annual mileage? If so would you still recommend a diesel where the DPF/EGR's etc would get blocked up & cost the OP a fair chunk of money?

What is his "annual mileage". Cant see where he wrote that, just his "daily" commute.

DPF/EGR's...……….."would get blocked up", not might but will deffo. What if they dont. What if the money he saves goes towards repairs. What if he wishes to take a weekend trip somewhere occasionally with his kids, or a week or so in the EU, anywhere.
I just dont get the ………..you cant buy a diesel unless you drive a cazzillion miles a day/week/month, attitude.

If you saw his daily mileage times it by 365 days (even though you can take time off for holidays) & you'll see, it also kills the argument about the money saved vs petrol.

I wouldn't buy a diesel for a 16 mile round trip commute either - unless there are frequent long trips at weekends to allow the DPF to regenerate!

And depending on the age of 320d the OP is looking at I'd be a bit worried about the cam-chain on an N47 engine! eek

If the commute is 16 miles then a diesel won’t have chance to get warm either and won’t be as efficient. Diesels are designed to plough up and down motorways all day every day.

Was thinking this also, I'm sure I read a thread on here where people were checking to see how long it took for their diesels to warm up fully and this sounds about right. There's also warm up times needed, especially in cold weather. http://www.dieselhub.com/tech/warm-up-cool-down.ht...

I find this interesting in a truck article, especially point 10. http://www.trucktrend.com/features/1205dp-10-ways-...

Maybe a 159 tbi but not sure how it handles or possible f30 320i but not sure how they perform.

You won't land an F30 BMW for 8k, the Alfa is a good car the only thing they have a problem with is bushes they seem to wear through them quickly.

The orginal reason for the 320d is you could get a f30 in sportline for 8k. I suppose i might have to wait to see if prices come down slightly.
