High Milage Golf GTD, what to look for
Discussion
They are pretty reliable - just make sure it’s got full history (if on long life could only have had 5-6 services) if a dsg it needs servicing every 40k - if not been done the you are playing gearbox roulette.
Make sure all the body and trim is in good nick. Vw paint chips easily so make sure the fronts not too rough.
Ensure the seats are okay, ensure the fabric and foam is all okay due to the mileage

Thanks for the reply, is there anything else I should check for when going through the service history? Just want to try and avoid any massive repair bills of possible
As long as it’s followed the schedule it will be fine. If it’s fixed it’s a minor/major regime every 10k. If on long life it’s up to 18k per service but needs different stuff each time. I think generally it ranges from a halfway house between minor and major to major but obviously the frequency is lower.Cam belt should have been done already as that’s every 5 years/80k if not it needs doing asap
Specifically... not much more than any other used car...that era golf imho do have their fair share of electrical and Aircon issues ...so spend 10 mins checking everything works as it should....
If it's got a panoramic roof the check thoroughly for any signs of leakage...if so run away...
A particularly painful one I missed when buying my current hack...give the headlights a good joggle...if totally solid then fine but mine had suffered a low speed impact and had broken some lugs . The slam panel.....headlamp aim therefore variable....replacement slam panel & labourwould have been ££££'s had I not done it myself.....(for a giggle seat stealer 10 hours labour Vs fact amateur home mechanic 4 hours ....hmm...they were king enough to sell me the panel trade though so can't complain too much)
At 20k a year probably has been driven as a TDI should be......not town stop /start...but you'll still have a quite impressive carbon build up.....mine was hideous at 50K ....an expensive clean restored power... since then run on (probable snake oil) additive and shell / Esso fuel only....

I've got a 2017 GTD with 62k on now.
Only issues really have been a driveshaft failed, satnav was a bit hit and miss when I first got it (wouldn't search addresses occasionally), auto wipers are cack so I switched that off, seems to use 1L of oil every 10-12k. Trim seems to rattle a lot. Can't really think of any issues really beyond that.
The standard Bridgestones aren't the greatest, Goodyear Eagle F1's seem better so far.
As a ball park, if it's on longlife servicing, my services have been £281 (1st service), £582 (2nd service + DSG oil change), £346 (3rd service). As already said, belt & dsg oil change will be due on or around the next service so will be lumpy.

I’d wager it’s a one owner car which has maintained a 20k a year usage.
Also would suspect it’s someone who has opted out of company car and taken the cash BUT has to run a car newer than 6 years old.
Miles treat interior so differently brand to brand
My old E90 330d and current F10 535d @113 &103k respectively look like a 30k car. Our S Max on c95k Miles however a Ford wow that looks like it’s done 95k miles and the niggles we’ve had to fix.

I’m less bothered about the amount of miles now although I’ll be putting around 40-50k on myself so I’d like to get one with 100k max I think, now I know what to check for. Switching from a mk6 fiesta which has been very reliable so VW or seat are all I’m considering. Thanks everyone
