New Polo or Fabia Estate?

We are looking a for a car that will predominately be used by my wife; she commutes to the train station 3 miles away each day but we need something practical to use at the weekends as the other car will be replaced with either a Fiat 124 or Z4 at a later date. We looked at three year old Skoda Yetis but OH not totally convinced.
The current contenders are a new Polo (1.0 SE) or a Fabia Estate 1.2 but with DSG (perhaps 12 months old). The initial budget was £12k but have now increased it to circa. £14K. I hate the idea of buying new/pre reg but there seems little difference in the new v's 1 year old prices. I've been using Carwow and the discounts are circa £2200 if we use PCP; is it still the case that you can cancel within 14 days to get around this?
The DSG really appeals on the Fabia, but it puts the Polo out of our budget.
Ant thoughts welcome.

Polo 100%. The “new” Polo 2017- are a completely new MQB chassis and design. The current Fabia is still a old design which originated around 2009 (10 years ago!)
What about a new Seat Ibiza? Basically the same as the polo but better looking and could possibly squeeze to a DSG on your budget?
The one attached is a 67 Plate with 5k miles, top spec FR with the 1.0l 115bhp which would cost a fortune on the equivalent polo.

I've owned all 3 shapes of Fabia and now have a 17 plate Fabia hatchback. It's definitely not a 10 year old model - it was a brand new model released in 2015. It does use the older PQ25 platform rather than the newer MQB, which is much better than the PQ25 but the difference is you pay a lot less for a Fabia as a result. My mam has a new Polo R Line on order and I'm not a fan of the styling to be honest but it's personal preference, although the interior is much better than the Fabia.
The Ibiza is a very good car to be honest, I've driven one and it's fantastic however the problem for me now with all three is the 1.0 TSI engine - I have one of the last the older 4 cylinder 1.2 TSI 110 engines in my Fabia and it feels more refined than the 1.0 to me, the 3 pot just doesn't feel as relaxed and settled at speed as the older 4 pot. The 1.0 is much better on fuel though and makes a great noise when you're bumbling about but it grates at higher speeds I feel. Try one to be certain though.
Bought a pre reg Polo SE 1.0 95hp manual for my daughter in July from JCT600. Great runaround car which will comfortably manage your 3 mile run to the station. Car had 10 miles on clock, and pre registered on day I agreed purchase. It has about 1k of extras, and cost me 13k. So 4k off total list at time when manufacturers were shifting stock before new emissions tests applied.
Expect residual to be 8k after 3 years, so 5k depreciation or 1.66pa is reasonable for a modern supermini. Not sure I would be so happy paying 17k list, ie 9k hit over 3 years for a supermini though.
Happy hunting because you should not be far out at 14k for finding a deal on a Polo with dsg box.

Thanks for the feedback; on balance I think we are going to go for the Polo. She had an Up before which was a great little car (apart from a noisy gearbox) but the new Polo is much more refined.
The DSG really appeals, and from what I can see from sites like Carwow, the new price with finance contribution is roughly the same price as year old examples. I would cancel the finance as soon as we took delivery; from what I have read on here it's a fairly painless process.
