So I purchased my VRS 230 Estate back in June 16, and it’s shortly going to be time for change. I’ve loved this car and I’m really struggling to find a replacement.

My current deal was 4K deposit, £265 a month. It’s reasonably quick, great spec, big boot etc. The new 245 once you add the options on to make it like for like is too dear for a Skoda IMHO. I’m happy to put another 4-5k deposit in this time, cover no more than 8k p/a, PCP over whatever. I need boot space, and BHO. That’s about it! I can stretch the budget to £400 ish without problem but I seriously can’t find something that fits the bill. Anyone have any ideas?

340i touring?

With the 0% offer they've got on currently and strong discounts with the new 3 series due imminently you could get an awesome deal.

The figures you've quoted are what I pay for a similar car from BMW.

Had a VRS 230 for two years and the BMW is an enormous step up, with pretty much the same fuel economy.

Good shout, the 340i is probably the best replacement. I worked for BMW for 4 years so I know their product well, only thing is the boot isn’t that big....

Why can't you buy your VRS outright?

Interesting question. I’ve debated it, never thought I’d enjoy a Skoda so much but it really does do so much so well. It’s only got 15k on the clock and feels great. It would only cost me 11.5k aprx after all, quite the used car bargain !

It’s a half sensible choice to be fair. Good engine, loads of room blah blah blah. The VRS with the diff and a great chassis make this such a fun car to drive, my only concern is that the biggger, fatter Superb will disappoint in the twisty stuff. Big plus on space and reasonable performance.

Checked out a 340i Touring again today- Great in every other respect than space... It's so small in the back. Shame really as I know there's a 0% deal coming on them which would bring it in budget, but the space available sadly doesn't tick the box frown

In all honesty, I've looked seriously at the 340i and I really hoped it would work-it's too small. Everything else is just perfect.
The Superb 280 isn't that dynamic in the corners, and the 245 VRS Octavia is crazy money (spec for spec) and I don't like the front end. I'd be changing it for circa £125 more a month to gain 15bhp and less spec. Makes no sense.
The Volvo? Still up there but for a decent lump up front it's way over what I'm paying.
Keeping the VRS 230? I think that's where I am. I can't find a suitable alternative for the money. I think i'll have to do that and buy something fun to add to the stable.

I know it's a Skoda, and it's got an awful badge, but given the chassis, the diff (which is bloody awesome!), heated leather, folding mirrors, 19" alloys, memory seats, loads of space in the boot, xenons, privacy glass, basic nav, bluetooth blah blah. It's a rippy little engine and it can hustle well. Never thought I'd say I love it, but considering it costs me circa £250 a month i'm struggling to find something on par. I'd happily go to £450 ish with a £4k-£5k deposit but even with that i'm finding it hard to justify. I don't want a 2.0d!
